Group test of 19 ATX PSUs@Trusted Reviews

Well I still haven't heard anything concrete from Coolergiant/Enermax. The last reply I got does leave room for speculation and also brings up a point that I wasn't aware of. Here is what Carol Chen sent me on February 25th. ------------ Hi James, Thanks for checking me back on this issue...

Group test of 19 ATX PSUs@Trusted Reviews

I don?t know yet if scary is the word for it, but mysterious certainly is. The Enermax units are running at very near the top of the pack through 75% loading and then at some (unspecified in the article) point above that they simple shut off. There has got to be more to that story. And I need...

An announcement for the SL-K8TPro-939 review by Mr. Fink

How could a reading of 60C be 40-degrees higher then the actual physical temperature if the ambient is 20C; that would mean an actual temperature equal to ambient, or in other words perfect thermal efficiency? If this is a typo you might want to fix it or she will misunderstand. By the way I...

An announcement for the SL-K8TPro-939 review by Mr. Fink

I submit to you that if your ambient temperature is 20C as you said earlier, then this reading from Sandra in not ?realistic?. Unless you believe that you are only running 4-degrees above ambient on air, a mark that a lot of folks would like to be able to reach with water-cooling! I am afraid...

An announcement for the SL-K8TPro-939 review by Mr. Fink

SANDRA is notoriously inaccurate when it comes to temperature readings. It is certainly not going to be more accurate then a reading from within a properly written BIOS. And it shouldn?t be more accurate then a Windows monitoring program written (and hopefully updated) by the motherboard...

Sorry, I originally wrote the wrong dates, and it appears you quoted me. That should have read 5-14th February. Now that that is clear, thank you for the info Lydia. Good fortune to you and your new spouse in the coming year of Yiyou (ji the Rooster). Peace James Edit: correct dates

The temps are wrong, I have little doubt. Just for reference to help you maybe figure a little closer to your actual temps. With a Zalman 7700AlCu and 3500+ (Newcastle) at 20C ambient I was getting 50C on the Soltek, at idle nothing overclocked. My Asus A8V with the same setup reads 32C. So...

Lydia, this is good news. Will the BIOS update be made available before your company goes on holiday 5-14th January for the Chinese New Year? Will the BIOS update also remove the irrelevant ?5V reading? Thank you for your participation here, and have a Happy New Year! Peace James

My power supply is an Enermax EG475P-VE operating properly under the ATX 1.3 standard of April 2003, which removed guidance for ?5V rails; there is no problem with my power supply. The motherboard doesn't use -5V; there is no reason for it to be in the BIOS, or in the HM software where it causes...

Same here, I want to see the temperature reading issue addressed. I set up my new board (RMA) and it got the same readings as the original, so it was not a one-off sensor issue. I also want to see an official BIOS release that removes the irrelevant ?5V reading, and the same for the HM...

The Zalman 7700 should fit in that case with no problems. I would however seriously consider replacing the junk PSU those things ship with if you haven?t done so already. Peace James

Rocketman14, The Asus board worked without issue right off the bat. The Soltek is a handsome board and appears to be of very high quality in its construction. I have had the -5V reading issue, which Soltek has acknowledged, and word from Lydia that there is a beta BIOS gives my hope that...

Thanks for the offer, and I will probable take you up on that. Although I wonder why a BETA BIOS wouldn't be posted on your website, as long as it is clearly marked as such, other manufactures do this. Either way it will have to wait as I have RMAed the SL-K8Tpro-939 and it will be a week or...

Actually I was hoping for readings from within the BIOS setup. Let the computer warm up at idle and then reboot and enter BIOS. Windows based HW monitoring software can be inaccurate. Peace James

Rocketman14, I can?t speak for X2C. But as for myself the only confirmable problem I have had so far is with the erroneous ?5V reading in the BIOS and HM software, relief for owners with this problem is not on the way apparently, as Soltek?s representative here has stated they have no plans to...

I am looking to get some feedback from you guys that are running Zalman 7000 & 7700 HSF on this board as to what temperature readings you are getting. I have read of one person in this thread who had issues, but I would like more input. I have an A64 3500+ (Newcastle) with a Zalman...

That's a shame, oh well it's still a good motherboard. I hope you will understand when I say that I will have to note this BIOS and HM software issue in any reviews I write for forums and mailing list, as well as my Newegg product review. I will still be recommending the board, and commending...

Yes she did get my email Lydia, but I believe only because I sent it to sales@soltek.com.tw and asked that it be forwarded to the support address that was kicking back mail. I still maintain that your company needs to upgrade its web presence. But that aside, I am most thankful to both you...

I am a little bit annoyed, I have tried sending a report of my problem several times to support@soltek.com.tw and the messages keep getting kicked back by their mail server. This also happens even if I use the website submission form. This company really needs to get their web presence up to...

This appears to have become the official (unofficial) Soltek SL-K8Tpro-939 thread, so I will add. To Lydia: Your company really should put together a distribution front office for the U.S.A. If you could do that, and still maintain the type of admirable personal touch that you have...

    Epox 8KDA3J Thread

Board arrived last Friday. It was revision 2.2 and had a large heatsink with a fan on it for the nVidia chip, unlike the photo at Newegg which simply shows a heatsink. Everything seemed to work fine, I was in a hurry so I built it in about 3-hours and took it over to my father in-law's house, I...

    Epox 8KDA3J Thread

Well after doing a bit more (quick) reading I find that this DDR 333 (2.7GB/sec) thing is not specific to this board and is an AMD specification. I guess Newegg and EPoX are off the hook, and I should be chastised for not doing my homework. My only excuse is it?s my first A64 build ever, and my...

    Epox 8KDA3J Thread

Yeah that whole issue has got me peeved. It is apparently not a misprint in the manual as some in this thread have wondered. If you go to the EPoX website they have a supplemental to the manual that can be access through the FAQ for the board; it basically just repeats the whole DS+SS thing. Had...

I ordered this board along with an A64 2800+ (Retail) to use in a build for my wife?s Father. He is 70-some years old and I don?t think we will see him doing any OCing, so that won?t be an issue. He will have 1xSATA HD, 1xDVD/RW and a FD along with 3 or 4 case fans. I am also donating a brand...

    Integrated Audio: VIA Envy 24PT

The sound on my Albatron PX865PE Pro II is exceptionally good for an onboard implementation. They make good use of the VIA Envy 24PT, and I couldn?t ask for more when playing games, listening to music thru my Logitech Z2200 speakers (2.1 setup). I am not saying it would surpass a high-end...

Sapphire Radeon 9800Pro overheating or bad memory???

I just picked up a new display, see my sig line. One of the things that prompted me to buy a new display was screen corruption I had been experiencing for the last week or so.
