These cars (plug-in hybrid) don't make sense to own unless gas price double. And by then, I can imagine electricity price will go up with it.
If you want to save money, get a used econobox. If you want to save the environment, move closer to your work or a city where you can live without a car.

The sample size is too little. If you are consistently getting 22-23 mpg highway, then I would say you might have a problem. I attempted to drive conservatively to save gas on my Celica once and that tank ended up doing only 22mpg, while I do 26 mpg most of the time on lead foot driving.
I highly doubt that the full 240,000 will buy a Volt at the end of the day - if they are being offered one at full price. These are potential customers that will probably cross shop all the hybrid cars.

My point is that they are still selling SUVs (regardless of size). And yes, having able to use govt funding to cake walk a bankruptcy help. What brought down GM was their bloated pension liabilities and less so with not selling enough cars like Chevy Cruzes.
