Quake 4, what Doom 3 should have been

I'm in the midst of playing Quake 4 and absolutely loving it. I tried Doom 3 and played through it most of the way. I got bored with it however, and still have not finished it. Yet, Quake 4 is sucking me in. Every free moment I get, I'm trying to progress farther and farther in the game. So...

XP-120 vs. Hyper 6 vs. Zalman--- Link to Review

And for a greater weight. The pure copper one weighs a whole lot more than the Aluminum/Copper one does. But I own the CNPS7000-Cu and I haven't had any problems with it being too heavy for the motherboard.

XP Upgrade

For those of you who have bought the Windows XP Upgrade, do you have to install it over Windows 98 SE, or can you do a fresh install of XP using the XP Upgrade by simply producing a valid copy of Windows 98 SE?

What sort of gains can I expect with an OC of a P4 3ghz Northwoods?

So is my CPU a 12-capper or a 30-capper? And was it made in Costa Rica or Malaysia? If somebody wouldn't mind, I'd like to be clued in as to how you can figure these things out.

I didn't have the AGP/PCI ratio locked at 66.66/33.33, but even when I locked it at that speed, my computer still froze up no matter what. Then, I tried your suggestion of setting the "Performance Mode" to Turbo, and it hasn't helped stability. I was already running it at Auto. As for my...

Well, I've concluded that I just got a sucky 3.0C. I tried changing the vcore all around in hopes of achieving 3.5GHz at least, but it was to no avail. Then, I even changed AGP-VDDQ from 1.5 to 1.6 in hopes of achieving stability, but I got the blue screen every time right after the XP start-up...

Actually, I've got a Zalman Pure Copper CNP7000 on there. It could be my memory though. I can't justify buying nicer memory just for a couple more hundred MHz though. Just not worth it in my opinion.

Yes gururu, I tried upping the clock speed of the processor while actually underclocking the memory just to make sure it wasn't the memory that was holding me back. I still can't get past 3.4 GHz. But oh well, 3.3 GHz is fast enough for me.

Mine doesn't overclock very well at all. I can't even achive 3.4 GHz without getting error messages in Windows XP or getting blue screens on the start-up.

Pentium 4 thermal paste and heatsink question

Using a thermal pad AND Arctic Silver 5 is not recommended. I guess if you're getting good temperatures with both together, then its up to you to decide whether you want to fix it or not. If it were me, however, I would take the thermal pad off and simply use the Arctic Silver 5. You can remove...

Ram OCing question

I'd go with the higher memory speed, rather than adjusting the timings. Get the highest speed you can, and then adjust the timings from there.

FarCry 1.3 available for DL

I'm not sure. I figured it had something to do with the combination of my GPU and CPU. My CPU is bottlenecking my video card, so I figured that at those particular settings, my CPU was being relied on more than my video card. I'm not positively sure though.

You can set the AGP Aperature size to 256 MB, but 64-128 MB is recommended. With a card having 256 MB of onboard memory, it is recommended that the AGP Aperature be set to 128 MB. That's what mine's set at with my 6800 GT. But, no matter what setting its set to, its not going to make that much...

Subhuman, I'm with you when it comes to eVGA. I was a little doubtful as to what kind of quality card they made until I recieved mine. Since then, I've noticed the same thing as you have. Seems like BFG cards have more cooling problems than the eVGA. Course, that's just that I've noticed. Maybe...

eVGA vs BFG

d2arcturus, If you can still get the eVGA card with Far Cry, I would recommend that. Far Cry's a great game, along with a good card. I love my eVGA. Never had any problems with it. Mine clocks up to 415/1800 MHz, but I prefer to leave it at the stock settings. I had it clocked at 400/1100 MHz...

Here's a review of several of the latest beta drivers in the 66.xx series as compard to the performance offered by the 61.77 drivers. The results of this review differ from the results you compiled. Not sure exactly why. From these charts, the 61.77's offer much better performance in Doom 3...
