Agreed. I've had 4 elitebooks in my business for about a year. They have all worked flawlessly with no problems. I would definitley consider them a good value in the $1Kish price range. Of course i7 and ssd's will get the price up there too.
I went with hardware raid6 when I migrated from whs v1 to v1. But then again, my v1 was hardware raid5. I built a new machine so I just kept them on my network and copied them over.
On the other hand I said no to folder duplication and went straight RAID5 a few years ago on whsv1. Never had a problem. When I built my WHS2011 server I went RAID6. As long as you still backup important data.
Yes to both versions. I have raid cards in both my WHS machines (V1 and V2). All I did was install the OS without the raid drives powered on. Once OS is installed, reboot while turning on the drives and it will show up as a drive in My Computer but it will not be in the drive pool. You can...
I've been running it for a week. Dashboard is slow. Didn't really have any issue with adding a 10Tb Raid5 array on an LSI controller. Have not converted clients to new server yet as I am still running a V1 server that is used for media storage. Have not yet put mymovies on it or done any...
I just upgraded 3 of my dvr's to these http://www.provantage.com/western-di...s~7WNDO081.htm
Western Digital WD20EURS
They are very quiet and cool in the two months they have been running. Designed for 24/7 low power/heat.

These are the cables I am using. I ran some quick benches late last night while I was REALLY tired. I thought I was seeing insanely high numbers. Some reads were around 800MB/s but maybe I was just dreaming :) I'll run some tonight and...
A few pics. I'll post a couple videos with sound as soon as I figure out how to post an mpg to my comcast page :)
Formats to 11170Gb which is better than I originally thought.

I'll post a couple tonight. Went to bed at 11:20 and the array was at 10% initializing. Done when I checked in the morning at about 7:00. Only formats to a bit over 10Tb with 8 2TB drives in RAID6. I wish 2TB was 2TB :) Will try to do some testing this weekend. I stuck with a 64K stripe size.
Got all 8 of them fired up tonight. I can't believe how quiet the case is and this is with the extra case fan. I'm just initializing an array so nothing hugely heat generating but still 10 drives total spinning. Makes my other server sound like an airplane taking off and it has the same...
You were correct on the cooler...not for 1156. Canceled it and I ordered this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...20NH-U9B%20SE2 instead. According to my measurements, it should fit with room to spare.
According to Supermicro it is the one for the case. I am assuming it is has some universal adapters for many sockets. I'll find out when I get it.
Also agree RAID is in no way a backup for anything mission critical. All my media can be re-ripped if necessary. My backups are spread across...
I got this http://www.provantage.com/crucial-technology-memory-ct2kit51272ba1067~7CIAL638.htm
Processor here http://www.provantage.com/intel-bx80...0~7ITEP33T.htm
Mine case came with one rear exhaust fan and 2 mid fans and I added a third mid fan. Also the power supply fan on the 865watt...
Yup, I really like it. I ended up adding a third mid-case fan so it would blow over the heatsink on the raid card. I haven't received the drives yet so I'm running it with 2 - 250gb, the raid card, and a dvd drive. I have dual 8Gb dual channel ecc crucial ram. I think it is dual only due to...
Not a 1366 but I'm in the process of building a home server off http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon3000/3400/X8SIA.cfm?IPMI=Y this board, the X8SIA-F, This case http://www.supermicro.com/products/chassis/4U/743/SC743TQ-865-SQ.cfm , along with a xeon 3440 and an LSI 9261-8i and 8...
What method are you using to update? Qflash through boot menu with USB flash dive? Floppy disk? @BIOS within windows?
I had recent Gigabyte MB that would ONLY update using @BIOS within windows.
Make sure you have the model number and HW rev from the silkscreen on the board.
Thanks OP. I received my 2 units yesterday. I actually had a $70 DLINK in my possession that I returned after seeing this smoking deal. Works without issue for me. I bought the other for a friend I am building a HTPC for. I'm thinking about adding a cable to extend the antenna outside and...
I used about 7 Intel 1156 motherboards for upgrades at my business. All went together without a hitch and have worked excellent for several months. All using integrated video. No heat issues. Really, no issues period. No real overclocking potential with intel. As others have said, they...
I do know there is a significant bump in performance of the HD300 versus HD2000. The obvious question is would you notice? For me, the extra few dollars was good insurance even though I'm running a htpc and likely shouldn't notice. For the occasional game that gets played on it, I'm guessing...
Have you tried the drivers direct from intel? I had slow graphics performance with the gigabyte driver on my h67MA-UD2H with an i5-2500K and when I downloaded from intel, it dramatically sped things up.
I also could not install from a usb flash on this board. Kept complaining about missing a...
Hey thanks for deciding what the rest of us "need". Typical Progressive.....I know better than the poor stupid masses so I'll just decide what is right and wrong. Go intrude on somebody else's life!
Looks like a good deal. Can't speak for reliability.
I had that happen on mine when I was updating the firmware on my c300. Would not see the drive until I did a power down. Never had a problem after that though.
I did with a minor strange thing. It did state to keep the drive in AHCI mode and specifically not ide mode. When it updated, it seemed like it hung for a few minutes while downloading to the drive so I left for a while (30 minutes). Came back to the reboot screen with "drive not found"...
I usually run a full manufacturer diag on it including a full scan. I've had two drives in umpteen years (20+) and easily over 100 hard drives fail out of the box.
I just had this happen on a new built and it turned out to be a bad power supply. I disconnected the DVD drive and it worked so I thought it was the drive. I had two identical builds so I swapped things around until I found the ps at fault.
I've always stayed with Intel for business for stability and reliability. I've got a bunch of 865 mainboards still going strong after 6 years. Just put a DX58SO in a workstation for my partner. Bios is definitely a little lacking compared to some of the import boards but definitely stable.
I have built two systems based upon Gigabyte MB's. The first was a GA-EP35C-DS3R and the second was a GA-EP35-DS3R. The difference is the C version supports both DDR2 and DDR3. Both have been rock solid at mild overclock with stock cooling (400X8).
