The GTX 280 covers 4 of 6 sata slots on my motherboard. I believe the easiest solution would be to get two right angled plugs and two left angled plugs. Four right angled plugs will not work as they will overlap each other.
I just ordered two left angled 36" SATA cables from here.
Yeah nice that you could return it. I've had this board for close to a year. Replacing the board would not only cost me an upwards of $200 but would be a major PITA.
I was looking at left angled SATA connectors. These might solve the problem because they would not overlap. The only worry...
I just bought a GTX280 and this massive card extends across my sata ports on my motherboard when it's plugged into the x16 pci-e slot. I am currently using 6 of 6 SATA slots for a RAID 5 so moving the SATA cables is out of the question. I currently have the GTX 280 in a pci-e x4 slot which I...
Sure, I have stocks in blackboard inc., intel corp., and western digital corp. All of which have returned decent gains despite the recent downturns in the market.
I'd take it to 1.5V @ 3.2ghz. So if it dies in 5 years instead of ten, will it really matter? Not for me, I would've gone through two new builds in that time. In the meantime that 200mhz give you a small but enjoyable increase in performance. Now 1.65v would be too much in my opinion, unless you...
This is your best option OP. Slipstream the drivers into a win xp installation cd using Nlite. Having personally used this method, I can say it works perfectly without a floppy drive. Google 'nlite nvraid slipstream windows xp cd'.
Yep the two smaller IC's get the hottest. I have seen pics over on the extreme forums where overvolted, no heatsink, bare IC's, actually melted on to the circuit board.
A few words of advice: Do not overvolt the memory.
I fried a card this way. My gt was at 750/1950 with 1.55v on core and 2.2 on mem. I had 2 copper heatsinks and a 60mm fan blowing on the those small chips that regulate the voltage by the shaded resistor. My memory fried with less than 2...
I don't know about the VF1plus as I haven't seen any in stock. Besides that the Thermalright v1 Ultra is the best air cooling you can buy although one of the most expensive and not the quietest. Keeps my 7900gt volt modded with 1.5V at 700/1600 under 60c.
I had to use different mounting screws to get it mount properly on the DFI. I used longer ones than the ones supplied. Additionally I had to use flat washers because my screw was a bit too long. I also used the springs provided in the box. I would recommend you buy a steel backplate for this...
The Raptor is fast on its own, but if you are thinking of buying two for faster performance, RAID 0 is negligible. Go RAID 0 if you want to double your storage (148gb @ 10000rpm), not for faster performance.

For $110 more, you could get a 200gb hdd, a dvd burner, an AMD64 3500+, and a computer that will grow with you when you decide to put it to more intensive tasks
Horizontally stretching is not used too much. The panel seperating the two monitors is so annoying that I have never grown accustomed to it. Dual monitors are more for having multiple windows open. If you want widescreen, a 2005fpw would be a better choice than two 19" lcd's.
I'd get the Opteron, OC is something you can do ongoing. yes it takes pracitice, but you can tweek and re-tweek on your spare time. It's not likely you will be burning something up, unless you crank up the volts too high. There is lots of good information that can be found in the...
Well its not quite useless. It simplifies the connections and gives you some extra port options. I don't think I would buy the platinum version if I could get front audio to my case though. The downside to the drivebay box is that you have two large cables stretching across your case possibly...
Looks like FRAPS might be the way to go for file conversion. This really seems tedious though as I will have to go through hours of processor intensive video recording in real time.
Feel free to PM if you have a solution but are unable to post.
I have some WMV files with DRM on them. I have the legal license to the files. What I would like to know is:
1. What should I use for screenshot video capture?
2. Is there better/easier way to remove DRM protected files?
I'm frequently on the go and I would like the ability to view...

10:1 is a stretch. Its more like 3:1. Also I wasn't referring to casualties, I was referring to the Russian fighting spirit. In battlefield accounts, the Germans were amazed at how much punishment the Russian could withstand.
This is why NATO commanders studied German...
Ok so I have some WMV files with DRM on them. I have the legal license to the files, only I would like to get rid of the DRM by converting them to avi files. I tried using FRAPS, but it only records for 30 seconds maximum. Is there something else I can use or a way to change FRAPS to record...
Ben Skywalker:
Agree on your other points...
Had the allies not been successful on D-Day, France, Germany, Greece and perhaps Italy would have enjoyed 50 years of communism along with the rest of Eastern Europe as the Soviet Unioun would have "liberated" them.
And finally, the Dresden...
Ben Skywalker-
Agreed. Had Germany not been subdued in May 1945, their major cities would lie wasted beneath a mushroom cloud. As it turned out, the same outcome was acheived with conventinal bombs. However, I think you don't give the Russians enough credit. The vast majority of the...
I will not comment on a lot of the "what ifs" of WWII. But this statement is misinformative. Stalin did not just "drank tea and coffee and ate caviar 24/7, " while Germany and the Allies fought in the west. In fact, Stalin boosted tank and armament production in the late 30' and early 40's...
It will most likely be the first option for me. I can still sell my dfi n-force 3 board and pick up a dfi n-force 4x for almost even money after selling my old board. The price of the 7800 is too tempting to pass up.
The only problem is it will take me a weekend to reinstall an OS and all...
The cards maybe more or less equal, but the 7800gt is cheaper. The only reason you would buy an 1800XL is if you are partial to ATi cards and are willing to pay a premium for it.
Well then your options become a bit more complicated. If you want high end, you have to go PCI-E. AGP mid-range cards fetch a price premium. It may be better just to swap out to a pci-e motherboard. If you can't be bothered with that, then it would be ok to buy an AGP 6800/x800 only if you...
