Maxtor DiamondMax 9 problem

are you sure the jumper is in its proper place? When was the last time you used the hard drive? how have you tried to format it so far? and what exactly happens when you try loading windows onto it?

Freeware programs and applications

I'm surprised this isn't on the list. Auto Gordian Knot is a few programs bundled together that work together automatically to convert a dvd (previously decrypted) using xvid or divx. It takes a while, but is amazing. http://www.autogk.me.uk/

DVD -> XVID question

I guess it depends on what you think is acceptable. I like to use about 85 percent quality or so... Just ask yourself how important that extra bit of quality is to you. If file size is of no concern, then feel free to keep 100%. It can't do you any harm.

i tried using xmpeg, but during the conversion, my hard drive gets filled up! i have thirty free gigs, and that should be enough. I ripped the dvd, and then used xmpeg to convert. Am i missing a step in between?

Hard Drive Partition problem. Help!!!!

underclocking inspiron 600m

I know you can disable SpeedStep for the Pentium M, but is there a way to keep the clock low? I know it sounds like a dumb thing to do, but the laptop overheats when gaming. If i take the laptop off AC power the processor goes down to 600mhz and i can play the game just fine without any heat...

yeah...it's probably dying...give it a few smacks, and it should work for a while, but otherwise, keep your eyes open for some new monitor deals, unless someone else has another idea... can you check to see if it isn't anything else by using a spare monitor? or how bout using this monitor...

I have a quick question about saving links/downloading...

well, you have to associate the program you want to open the files with the file extension. Like, associate Real player for all .avi files...I'm not sure exactly how to do that, but if you search "file association" in the application help menu and you're bound to find it...

the 6800OC/6600GT

Also remember that the 6600GT can enable it's Purevideo Processor (or whatever it's called) via driver updates. nVidia finally got their onboard processor to do something productive by lowering Processor usage during video encoding and decoding(?). Especially good for by lowering temperatures...
