Wow, Anand posted an article on DVD burners at the perfect time for me. Looks like I'll be going for the NEC 3500A. I still can't believe how cheap DVD burners have become so quickly. That's basically a top of the line burner and it'll only set me back $96.99 CDN. Very nice.

Really? I know it's not like the Ultra which requires two slots and two molex connectors, but I though I had heard that even the NU eats up a fair bit more power than previous gen cards (ie. te 9800Pro). It's good to know that it won't fry when I install the HD and DVDRW. Speaking of...

HALF LIFE 2 CONSOLIDATION THREAD

PC Gamer UK gave it a 96%. Regular PC Gamer gave it an even better score - 98%. That's a tie for the highest score they've ever given out (the other being to Alpha Centauri).

I've got a 380 Watt Antec TruePower (comes with the Sonata) powering the the system you see in my sig. In the very near future I'm planning on throwing in a 2nd hard drive (200 gig IDE, either WD or Seagate depending on what's cheaper at the time) as well as an inexpensive dual layer DVD...

I got the impression that the DVD decoder should function now, while some of the other features will only function once the new drivers are released in late November. Are you sure that's not the case?

Wait a second, WinDVD should be able to make use of the card's hardware decoder for DVD movies? Then why does my CPU generally range from about 13% to 35% when playing dvd movies while the GPU temperature doesn't seem to increase at all?

I've emailed Leadtek a few times now and they keep telling me that my problem most likely lies in the software I'm using. They claim that Windows Media Player doesn't support hardware decoding of any kind and that I should contact Microsoft. Is that complete garbage, or what?

Driver/3dmark/performance consistency problems. Leadtek and/or 6800Vanilla bad?

I have the exact same problem as you do. Very similar system (same GPU and power supply, almost the same CPU) and I get those same blotches in the firefly test. I I also get similar problems at the start of the CPU tests. I'm hoping that it's just the 61.77's and that an official new...

Don't the 66.70's have problems with certain games? Because I thought I heard something about them not working with Tribes: Vengeance and UT2K4, for example.

What about performance and compatibility in general, though? While I'd like a better 3DMark05 score, compatibility and performance in real games is more important. Do I risk damaging any hardware/software with these drivers or will they cause artifact or anything else of the sort in modern games?

I've got a similar problem. I'm on Leadtek 6800NU (61.77) and an A64 3000+ and am only getting 2400-2650 in the program.

I'm not sure how to change those settings, but either way I doubt they're the problem. I mean, my 3DMark03 score is perfect for my rig, so I don't get what's wrong with 05, and to a lesser extent, 03.

Why's my score so low? On an A64 3000+ with a 6800NU, I'm only getting 2654 I don't think there's any problem with my hardware or software, seeing as how I get 8900 in 03 (although I only get 19,200 in 01SE, which is on the low side, although nowhere near as bad as my 05 score). What could it be?

I decided to choose the 3rd option. I've installed XP Pro but now need to use the TF&S Wizard. What do I need to know before going through with this? Because it says something about creating a Wizard Disk.

Low 3dmark w/6800

I had a similar problem in that I was getting only about 5800 with my A64 3000+, 1 gig of PC3200, and 6800NU. My problem turned out to be my mobo drivers. So make sure your motherboard drivers are up to date and it wouldn't hurt to do the same with DivX as well as your video card drivers...
