try going to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v4/iuident.cab if a download box pops up , the problem is not with the internet connection. If a download box Doesn't pop up, you gotta go through those firewall settings again.

How do I get back the single processor kernel?

Do you mean the Hal? xp is not a kernel swapping o/s. you can't just download and install a new kernel ,ya know. Is what you are looking for. .... device manager, computer, expand and choose new driver, pick the multprocessor from the list and install? or just use system restore dude. :)...

Product Activation Again w/ no Changes?

Cant install XP

I had a similar problem on an Msi kt7 turbo. Turned out the board was defective. try a standard hal, or go into bios and set fail safe defaults. if it doesn't install, try removing one of the dimms. Try a different hard drive, and finally a different motherboard. linear and logical baby...

Problems w/ SP2

Microsoft will tell you to uninstall sp2 , to restore system functionality. In the case of installing sp2 with go Back installed , i don't believe it would ever be stable due to the low level filter drivers in GoBack Fudging the update. Consider yourself lucky that your error was not a fatal...

yes you can disable these nags. go to control panel and open up the security center. choose firewall or updates , Recommendations. there should be a checkbox in there where you tell the sec center that you will monitor it yourself

I want to stop the video driver from loading in recovery console. i know the command is disable <driver> for services i can use listsvc, but what can i use to identify what the driver name is??? how do i find out what driver to disable? any help would be appreciated, thx

thx for that reply. i actually did google that and tried to batch spuninst.txt. it also was prefixed by 80304___C_....spuninst.txt. when typing the exact file name , i was given an unrecognized command message. i tried to attrib the file to no avail. I think i may have to do a parallel install...

ok, np i think that this is going to be a pretty common error , probably caused by an AV, cdrw software and other misc apps perhaps messing up the update (kind of like the win98 to XP upgrade issue). it is easy enought to uninstall in safe mode, or to use system restore, but if I cannot boot...

I have installed sp2 on a system. It now cannot boot in normal or safe mode(command,network) whatever. last known good does not work. It simply reboots before choosing a user to log in. Can i uninstall from recovery console? if so, how? thx
