What shoes to wear for an Urban environment and casual look?

Merrell is pretty good for that all purpose shoe for summer, snow and rain. I put my last pair through a lot and it lasted for a couple of years. Highly recommend the gore tex Chameleon series. Waterproof too.

Intel Laptop Wifi card in desktop

Update from installing Ubuntu yesterday. The adapter worked without any issues. Not sre if its using the intel driver or something else. Odd that it would work in one and not the other Ah well....off to the egg to buy a DD-WRT router. Looks like that might the most reliable way to get online...

Wired LAN slower than wireless

Disabling ipv6 and flow control did not help either. I am close to giving up and calling TPlink for a replacement.

Spidey, I tried it with 7 going through Lan properties but still did not work. Still trying to figure out how I can do it on Ubuntu. Trying XP next to see if that works.

Hi, I have a strange problem with my router, a TP-Link TL 740N. I am on comcast and I get 3 Mbps download wireless but only 1 Mbps on the wired connection to the desktop. I've updated the firmware on the router and isolated the issue to it. I've checked the connection against other cables...

DVI connection does not work

Update, I replaced the 6600 gt with a Diamond Ati 1050 and DVI worked fine, no issues. Uninstalled the drivers, used driver cleaner and re-installed the Nvidia card and DVI does not work again. I don't know if the problem is with XP but going to load Ubuntu over the weekend and if that works...

Scoop, The monitor would work fine from a cold boot, work fine for a couple of minutes and then turn off. And I would get the message that I should move the mouse or hit any key to bring the monitor out of power save mode (same as standby). I am going to try another GPU (ATI this time...

Try Force 2.0.8 if you want a GUI in Windows. I use it with XP and it works fine with both F77 and F90. It's free and you can get it from download.com. CD.

Squad Based Shooters

I picked up Rogue Spear for 5 bucks but it felt too hard and very little fun. I guess I'm just not that deep into squad based play. But if Ghost Recon as hard as that. Modeps, I think even Republic Commando is going to be short and linear. 15 missions dosent sound like much. CD.

Three kernels and two versions later, Ubuntu is up and running with the 6600gt and 6629 drivers in Warty. There was a very helpful thread over at the Ubuntu forums in the how-to section and the solution, though it was long, worked like a charm. I'm about to try it on Hoary tonight...

I changed the Xfree86 conf file from "nvidia" to "vesa" and I was able to get Gnome to boot at last. First post from Ubuntu.Now the nvidia driver 6629 said that it needed gcc and cc path and said that I could find the installation help in its readme, but there wasnt much there. I'm looking for...

I did the upgrade to Hoary, but the display still corrupts and hangs right after the nvidia logo screen. I dont know where to go from here. I'm contemplating installing Debian, but I dont know if thats going to do any better. Any help is appreciated. CD.

Ok, now the update worked fine and the nvidia screen shows up after which the display gets garbled and system hangs. And, Nothinman, the "$sudo gedit ......." didnt work, so I did it with vim instead. Hope that wasnt a problem. CD.

Just got back gave it a try again and here's the whole thing. 1. Everything loads up fine and when it has to start the X server, it flickers and then tell me that it cannot start X-server cause its not setup properly. Disabling X-server now and then asks me to restart GDM when its configured...

Here's the link. Now they have a video of the level and its looks pretty impressive. Doom3's engine is a lot more capable than Source and in a year it'll show too, but we all know how much gamers actually care about all the eye candy if the gameplay sucks. It will be interesting to see what gets...

Can you guys elaborate a bit more, say, from the bash shell prompt ( is that what its called?). The Xfree86 interface dosent even load once and error message says that its unable to load the "gdm" module whose settings need to be changed I guess. So now from that prompt I tried those commands...

How are they going to make extraplanetary harvesting more feasible than hydrogen power? It seems unlikely that we could find a new fuel source to make any kind of interplanetary harvesting more efficient than something we can find on Earth itself. Just my thoughts here so I could be mistaken...
