Does anyone know if M$ ae going to move anywhere on this one? Believe it or not I have gone so far as to build myself another rig and I am holding that one at SP1 because of this exact issue so that I have the convenience of VPN on my main rig.... Talk about overkill!

MSI K8N Neo2 mobo and ATA speed issues

The newer IDE ATA drive is a Samsung Spinpoint P SP1614N 160GB ATA-133 8MB Cache and the older is a Seagate Barracuda I forget the model, but I know it is 80GB and 7200 rpm with ATA133 (bought a 2 or three years back, same price as spinpoint now). So, they should both be UDMA6 capable SFAIK

not crimped or bent - but they came with the MSI mobo and they are the type which I think immitate narrow ones by having heat sink on their lengths and just rolling up standard IDE cable (cannot be good for the signal I guess?) - anyway like I said replacements on order to try - thanks.

you should have gotten a backplate with the Zalman -and that should do it I believe .... I even have a spare one because I installed a couple and one of those was a different mounting (socket A) so if you need one.... send me SAE and shipping....

you're idea fits your symptoms with one exception - how come we can ROUTE ADD and get our VPN to operate just as before for things like Telnet? It's a little more complex than that and I am to be frank just amazed M$ is not reacting a little faster on it... *goes off to mail M$ support!*

The transfering files and the being a server can be taken as separate things - if you want to - although once it is a server transferring becomes simplistic and may not even be in your best interests, depending on your network configuration. Networking would be such a big issue you really need...

Thanks dbergtk - I had tried that ADD ROUTE so it is not that, maybe for all I know there are Outlook issues with SP2 also? That WOULD be a biggie though, so I think I'd have heard. Still waiting on some news from M$ after I told them the hotfix did not help and I ws having to do my own ADD...
