This is the way I was leaning, didn't even think of future upgrading. Sometimes you can't see the light with your head up your *ss. Too focused on other aspects of my build to think about memory other than the total amount I wanted. Thanks for pointing that out.
New build to be my everyday user. MB of course has dual channel support. My question is should I go 2x4 gig sticks or would 4x2 gig sticks be better. 8 gigs total is plenty for what I do, should I save the $10 with 2 4 gig sticks or just fill all 4 slots with 2 gig sticks? What do you think?
Thanks for all the ideas guys. Memory checks out but it is working fine with 4 gigs of memory. Will let it go for now, she doesn't really need it anyway. Didn't think about the power supply, did wonder about the memory controller in the CPU. Wondered if a hot spot could cause a problem...
Yea, it is dual channel. It's a MSI OEM board. Of course there's no info anywhere about the MB but the first two slots are red and the second two are blue, so I took 1 & 2 as a pair and 3 & 4 as a pair. I tried another pair of memory that I had, still wouldn't boot with 4 slots filled even...
Perhaps someone here knows the answer, it sure has me scratching my head. My wife's computer is a HP m9515y that came with 8 gigs of PC -6400 ram. 2 gig sticks in each slot. Worked fine for two years. About 2 months ago, it would randomly hang or not come out of low power state after sitting...
For some unknown (to me anyway) reason, my printer has assigned itself and new IP address and all my computers on the network think it is still the old IP address, ergo I cannot print because the printer can't be seen. I have racked my brain, but I haven't figured out how to change it to what...
Well, I guess the lesson here is to use a different password for every site. Change your gmail, yahoo, whatever password frequently and hope for the best. Man, what a PITA, I will have a list about 2 pages long.
Yes, I have used this password on some forum sites. Don't see how they would get it though unless somebody that works for the forum site is selling them.
gmail rated it as strong, but I haven't changed it in over a year. Would it be possible if somebody replied to an ad from craigslist and I replied back with gmail? gmail is the account I use for most everything but my personal contact list and my financial stuff. I was on an unsecure network...
I was wondering if anybody could tell me how some Nigerian scum got into my gmail account, changed the password and security question and forwarded all email to his cell phone in nigeria. I NEVER give out passwords and am really at a loss to see how he accomplished this. I have already scanned...
Figures they would offer it free after I just bought NIS 2010. I got a free trial on a recent computer I bought. The new version are much less bloated then they used to be and no 2 hour scan once a week like McAfee. It may not be the best, but it is better than McAfee IMO. The section that...
Wow, this is weird. My last cashback transaction is finally available for payment tomorrow. Microsoft just deposited the amount tonight in my PayPal account without me doing a thing. Rewarded the money all on their own with no input from me at all. Strange.
Back to only 20% for me, cannot get anything higher. On a happier note, I bought five things over the weekend and got instant cashback on three of the five. One was an instant 100.50 back, the other two were $26 & $8. Still nice to get it right away and buy more stuff.
Forgive my stupidity, but I'm still in the old school with AGP slots. I understand the PCI express system and that the x16 is used for graphic cards. My question is, I see many new MB with x1 slot and I have no idea how it can be used. Anyone care to enlighten an old gizzer??
What's not to get? Plain price, no discount offered $749. So they raise the price of the unit $160 dollars and offer $150 off the now raised price, making it $10 more than it was before the "discount" offered. Again, strange way to do business.
I have been looking for an XPS 400 that I can turn into my HTPC and have been keeping and eye on the outlet. There are currently almost 350 units on the site. As I watched the total machine count climb, I waited for a discount to move the stock out. Suddenly this afternoon, they began to...
I've got a 30% coupon that doesn't expire until the 28th. But it never works, always takes the 30% off the 499 list price, so it is alway $349.70. Useless coupon.
Yeah, good luck with Netgear rebates. They are one of the worst around. Denied my rebate in June and one last year. I called and had to threaten them with sending the info to the att. general in my state. They said my serial number was bogus even though I had the router right in front of me...
No you can install on several as long as you have a different email address for each one
and a different password. Last I knew, comcast allowed you up to seven different email addresses.
Had to vent somewhere, this seems like a good place. Netgear svcks. Purchased a WGR614 from Amazon because I had a gift cert. and with the $20 rebate it was just about free. Amazon is on the approved resellers list, right on the Netgear form. I DL the form, fill it out when my router arrives...
Nah, your memory was right. I found a user review and it was split about 50/50 with 43 posts. It either somewhat worked or there were a lot of problems. Software update is supposed to solve multiple user problem, but according to posts, it didn't work very well.
Think I will steer clear.
Anybody have a experience with Ximeta Netdisk external HD that combines both USB2.0
connectivity and an ethernet port to share on your local net. An Office Max near me has them on the clearance table for $99. It is an 80GB, 7200rpm drive. Would be nice to share files within my home network...
Seems to be a lot of knowledgeable IBM people here, so here goes. What is the fastest processor that a
A31p came with, or what could it be updated to. How is the ATI 7800 compared to say a Dell ATI 9000
both with 64 megs. I came across a very reasonable deal on an A31 but it has a slow 1.8...
