XP install on RAID array with no floppy drive...

obviously, he doesn't have access to one. I read a guide once to copy the drivers to a burn of the XP CD. The one I read was very good and intensely detailed. Don't know if this is it, as it has the whole install for someone who doesn't plan on attending it, but it might help...

Best possible overclock?

I think it gets to a point where rapid heating/cooling will make it blow up, but as long as your temps are fine, you should be OK.

RAM Timings and MHz

it depends. I find higher megahertz means a better performance gain in general. it does get to a point when bad timings ruin it though. You can look at various benchmarks AT has ran. Take a look, for example, at some of the graphs on the latest 1GB Ram article...

How can I test a my blue screen of death for processor or mother board failures

it should. The only thing I can reccomend is seeing if your local computer hardware store has professional diagnostics tools they can run on your hardware. That is the only way I know of to be 100% sure of what the problem is, especially if they're intermittent. you could be replacing your...

Couple of questions on a Hard Drive

I reccomend 80-pin cables. We recently had an interesting experience where a harddrive cloned with a 40-pin cable had something like 40000 read errors and with an 80 pin cable only had about 300. The drive itself was damaged, but the extra 40 pins made it a lot more stable.

Yes, we need mroe info on the error messages and stage at which they appear. In my experience, when you get strange garbled crap with the drives, either the controller on the mobo/controller card is fried, the HDD's logic card is fried (which can be replaced with an EXACT copy with no problems...

ehh. I'd go for better RAM than that. 2GB at least. If that SD core is a 4000+ or a 3700+ it's just begging to be overclocked.

basically, it's best to overclock with no divider, as your RAM will run faster. But if your RAM can't take it, then you have to use a divider to stay stable. with DDR500 RAM you basically pay for a garuntee that you can overclock to a fsb of at least 250 before needing to use a divider. As...

Anyone still gaming happily on an older/low end card?

I'm playing HL2 and CS Source on a Radeon 8500 64MB ddr special edition thingy. I run an average of 25-45 FPS, but when lots of people are around, or I get FB'ed, it sometimes drops to about 15FPS. This is 800x600 no AA/AF, medium/high settings.

Looks like I am going to get the Swiftech H2O Extreme kit, what large full tower case should I get?

WAIT! don't buy the kit yet. wait couple weeks and get the Swiftech H20 220-Apex Ultra kit with the new APOGEE waterblock. Also, unless you want to do some case modding, use the radbox that comes with the kit for an external radiator mount

What water cooling kit should i get for a new build?

I'd wait and get the Swiftech H20 Apex Ultra with the new APOGEE waterblock. That's the best kit on the market right now, $259. only about $60 over your price range. drop the vid card down a bit and get that kit. If you want, throw in a dangerden Maze4 GPU block.

get the pump from etiher swiftech or danger den (they're the same). at DD, it's like the D5 pump, and idk what it is for swiftech. For a waterblock, get the STORM from swiftech. for the GPU cooler, get a Dangerden MAZE4 VGA block. Tygon tubing all the way.

What is the significance of being able to adjust DRAM voltage on overclocking?

if it's the CPU that's holding your overclock back, without being able to up the vcore, you're stuck. if it were the RAM that's erroring out instead of the CPU, you could raise the voltage to make it more stable. Basically the methodology of overclocking is to crank it up until you run into...

if someone will get you one for your birthday, X-fi all the way. You pay no money either way, and the X-fi is a far superior card to anything else on the market, except it's a tad overpriced depending on what you want it for. however, it seems price isn't a factor for you.
