I had XP on one partition that I split to make room for Windows 7. Rebooted, picked to boot from DVD (via ESC boot menu, not bios setting) and Windows 7 started to install fine. On first reboot though XP loaded up with no options to choose the OS.
I tried to boot from DVD again but it just...
I just finished setting this up myself.
You'll only need to forward TCP port 3389 to the computer you're trying to connect to.
Also make sure you have the Terminal Services service started and have enabled Remote Desktop on the XP box.
Or if you prefer you can change the port by editing the...
Those numbers are nothing outrageous. 1758Kbps = about 220KBps. Tests are always measuring in kiloBITS per second whereas when you download you usually see kiloBYTES per second. :)
As far as I understand it XP comes in 2 flavors, Pro and Home each with a slightly different different feature set. I believe the Corporate edition is the Pro edition but with a volume license which doesn't require activation.
You can check if you have the WinXP firewall enabled by going to Start-->Control Panel-->Network Something (don't remember exact name). Right click your LAN connection and go to properties then see whats checked on the last tab.
It sounds like your non-maximized state has its window position off the screen so try this:
Make sure only 1 instance of IE is open.
Click the Restore Down button so you lose the window.
Right-click the taskbar button for the window and click Move then don't touch the mouse.
Hit any arrow key...
<< Looks like another customer who's bought into the PacHell-disseminated myth that DSL is a dedicated pipe superior to cable. :D >>
What? You mean when I'm on the internet I don't have a dedicated link straight to every site with DSL? :D
Its amazing though how much DSL providers try to...
If its IE, right click the bookmark and go to properties. Make sure the target is not a sub-page of the site (eg. www.accessatlanta.com/logon/somepage.htm) or something. The internal pages may have changed which would give you the error.
What happens if you just type the address in your...
Has your DSL modem changed at all? Had it replaced maybe? Some modems only allow x number of mac addresses which prevents you from networking your connection with more than x number of computers.
Try turning off/unplugging the modem, disconnect 1 working computer. Boot the modem, then reboot...
I've tried the keyboard shortcuts (ctrl+c/x/v), Edit menu, and context menus. They all do the same thing. Copy seems to work fine, cut doesn't do anything, and the paste option is greyed out after a copy/cut.
Yeah I haven't had a chance to look at the clipboard when it happens but I will next time. My RAM should be fine as its always text I'm copying and am not usually running any large programs. text editor, couple of IE windows etc... I'll check my RAM usage next time though, thanx.
Recently I've been having trouble with the copy & paste feature where I'm unable to copy any text from any application.
I've tried it in MS Office XP, Metapad, Notepad etc... The Paste feature is greyed out whether I use copy or cut.
Usually it will start working again on its own, sometimes...
I don't think any basic hardware routers can do this.
You could try linux. It seems to be able to do anything so if your'e up to it start reading cause I know nothing about it. :)
Does anyone know if there are any java applets that can telnet to a site and display the results on a webpage? The site only displayes about 20-30 lines of text then disconnects automatically and I'd like to be able to see this info from a webpage instead of opening a separate telnet app...
This is a known bug in IE 6. It happened in IE 5.0, was fixed in 5.5, then happened again in a couple betas of IE6 as well as the final. I have yet to hear of any fixes coming from MS though.
Only suggestion I've heard it to drag your link into the window you want it to open.
As far as I can tell the "Repair" button just renews your IP. Next time try renewing it yourself.
Start-->Run-->cmd
then type 'ipconfig /renew' then try the internet.
If it works then either your ISP is giving you a VERY short lease or your nic isn't holding it. Newer drivers maybe?
I've had similar issues with refresh rates my monitor couldn't handle. You might be able to test it by changing your desktop resolution to all standard resolutions (640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024 etc...) each with 16bit then again with 32 bit colour. See if your monitor goes black...
As far as I know CDr and CDrw can be used in the same way. Both can be used to burn data/audio cds (cdrw's not recommended though), both can be used in DirectCD, both can be used to burn images (iso, bin/cue etc...). Only difference I know is you can erase CDrw and not all CD/DVD players...
Do you happen to have DirectCD installed? I haven't used it in a while but it used to lock the drive. You needed to use the DirectCD icon to unlock the drive before you could open it. It should be in your system tray if its installed and running.
Figured it out. I had some Tweak XP software or something installed with an ad-blocker. The ad-blocker just added domains to my hosts file, rd.yahoo.com included. It didn't remove them after uninstalling it so I did it manually and everything works fine now.
My own stupidity and the dumb...
Just compared proxy, security, and advanced options for both computers and they're identical. I did find out though that the link works fine if I use my ISPs proxy. Now I'm even more confused. Great. :)
Heh, yeah didn't even notice this site has a ? in it. Ok maybe its not the ? then.
The main site I'm having trouble with is Yahoo Fantasy Sports.
I can get to the main Yahoo sports page fine here. But I can't click the Fantasy tab at all. I have to remove the first half of the link for it...
Try releasing your IP on your main computer then connect your 2nd computer and boot up.
To release your IP on your main machine go to Start-->Run, type 'cmd', click ok.
Type 'ipconfig /release'.
Whenever I click on links with a question mark in the address I get page cannot be displayed. This only happens on my home machine so its not the site (eg. sports.yahoo.com - Fantasy tab).
IE 6 on Win XP pro - no proxies enabled.
Firewall completely disabled, but ICS is running.
Tried...
Bah, just type the following in Start-->Run to completely uninstall Windows Messenger in Windows XP:
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
Trillian for chat - Bar None
Metapad - Ultimate Notepad replacement
Tray Manager - Hide tray icons you don't want/use (For thise without Windows XP of course)
oh and I forgot to add:
Tiny Personal Firewall
These are all freeware BTW.
Visit DynDNS. You can setup a domain (eg. mydsl.dyndns.org) and run one of the clients to automatically update the domain with your new IP. Then you can just access your computer via mydsl.dyndns.org.
