Looks dead as of 10:30 EST 11/28 - $140 now.
For all of us that missed the $89 Newegg/Amazon on Black+Friday, Amazon still has the 3TB at $109 with Free Shipping while Newegg has raised back to $149.

Running a BE550 (4 cores unlocked @ 4.0 GHz) - I do a good bit of encoding with Handbrake and occasional video (Vegas) work. I guess the extra cores will offset the O/C penalty for a locked chip. I want an unlocked 1090T for this price.... sigh. May still get this one - thanks for the posting.
The combination of rebate and Newegg 10% brings this card much closer to the 670 pricing (about $50 more for the 680). Have not yet pulled the trigger, but I am thinking hard about it. Thanks for the post.
How fast is the non-cost reduced version? This one is advertised pretty well on neweg:
Max Sequential Read
Up to 555 MB/s
Max Sequential Write
Up to 510 MB/s
4KB Random Read
Up to 86,000 IOPS
4KB Random Write
Up to 60,000 IOPS
MTBF
1,000,000 hours
I had a similar problem in a 2003 Saab. I checked the thermostat by hooking up a test meter that reported coolant temperature and pulled off the hose leading from the thermostat. I had blown off a hose and was running pure water for this test. Bottom line - thermostat opened at the right...
I purchased this from Tiger. However, the claim service popped up a message that All rebates were claimed and no more were available. I called in and Tiger canceled my order. Still good at $40 but not the deal I was willing to buy.
I picked up a phenom II with motherboard at Microcenter for a little more than $100. It is a 500 BE dual core that easily clocked to 4 ghz using all four cores (unlocked the other two). The performance in multi threaded apps such as Handbreak has been great. As noted by another post, if you...
16 GB Ram and 8 GB microSD arrived today! Wow, I remember the guilty pleasure of getting 4-1GB HP Memory for $64 not that long ago. This is deja vu all over again. Thanks to the OP.
Ouch - I thought the $100 rebate was tough. It will show as $185 before rebate now so it is a little better than the $150 reported above. Maybe next week it will be $125 with a $40 rebate? :)
Newegg & Patriot just upped the ante on the rebate gamble. How about 16 GB in 8 GB sticks for $84.99 after a large $100 rebate. The deal just got harder to resist - Newegg reduced the pre-rebate price by another $75.
Patriot Gamer 2 Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3...
I upgraded from a 4890. I was able to overclock an EGVA SC version from 763 to 880. At that point it was a nice upgrade with lower temps, quieter fan, and less power draw.
My basement server running 24/7 is a K6-3+ @600MHz on a Tyan motherboard. It is running Windows 2003 Server edition. I am thinking about retiring the PC only because I can replace this 80watt (total draw) system with a 39 watt AMD BE2300 setup to save a couple of bucks each month on my...
First, I am biased by an excellent over clocking 555. However, when I purchased the CPU, I had similar questions and decided that the 555 would be best for my apps. The main reason for my upgrade was for gaming. The secondary use was infrequent encoding with a multiple threaded application...
"Budget" gaming today - multiple cores are often of minor use. I recommend dual core higher clocked CPUs such as the 555BE with stock 3.2GHz and unlocked multiplier. If you get lucky (and it's not that uncommon to be lucky here), you will be able to get the third or fourth core running for...
I continue to overclock to find my "sweet spot". However, I am much less likely to be soldering jumpers on the MB socket or shorting across connectors to adjust voltages. As noted in the OP, I find the CPUs run great for most applications and will only run at my maximum OC for certain games...
It seems likely that the CPU has seen its last days.
This does not mean that the computer is dead forever. I agree with the previous poster that it would not be worth buying a CPU to find out if the MB is also dead forever.
However, I am sure that I have at least one CPU compatible with...
Hyper 212+ is pretty different when it comes to applying thermal paste because of the direct.contact heat pipes. I had to reseat a second time after finding a good article on the net. Regardless, you got a good reduction in temps for a great price. This is my current favorite air cooler.
Have you used a different CPU with the same mb and memory? There is no good reason for the 555 not to run at stock voltage on stock(2 cores). I would suspect other components unless the CPU is the only change.
Let us know the results if you go with an alternate NB cooler. I have a Gigabyte MB with a heat pipe to the VRM modules but would like to try alternate coolers. I also have the 212+ and "think" it will fit between the cooler and video card. :)
You can order from MicroCenter for $25.98 shipped plus tax. This is a terrific cooler that works as well as the all-the-one water cooling systems (Corsair H50, etc). I replaced a Zalman 9700 and dropped 10c on an overclocked AMD 555 BE (unlocked to four cores and overclocked to 4GHz). This is...
Win7 Ultimate 32-bit. I set this system up with the RC1 version last fall because I have an old video program I like that would not run in 64-bit. The AMD x3 720 I was using before the 555BE overclocked the same in this setup and its next home with Win7 Home Premium 64-bit.
Do you expect to...
1) Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4P
2) Updated to F5 Bios (needed for unlocking cores)
3) CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Plus
4) MicroCenter
5) 1002MPMW (CACAC - C3 Stepping)
Unlocked all 4 cores and will run at 4.1GHz with 1.44v but temps get 55-57c; 4.0 GHz with 1.36v (46-47c); Runs fine at 3.8 GHz...
Larry - I'm sorry for my poor sentence structure. You are correct - I can only read the one indication for CPU temps when running all four cores. I meant to say that that single temperature indication reads about 50c when I run Prime95 in the unlocked configuration. :/
I have one of each (720 x3, 555 x2). Both unlocked on gigabyte MA790X-UD4P motherboard once I updated the bios. The x3 at four cores would overclock at 3400Mhz with a little voltage increase and run at 3600Mhz at about 1.45v but no go above 3600Mhz and it ran a little hot (48-52c) running...
I have absolutely no problem with a company refusing to honor a price error IF (and it is a big IF) they do not take my money for the product. E-commerce is much too main stream now for a company to charge your account before shipping the product and then claim it is ok to tie-up your funds for...
I am using a Tyan Trinity ATX S1598 motherboard with an AMD K6-3+ 450 @600 as my central server for files and media. This setup runs 24/7 and is from circa 1997. I shut it down the other day to put in a USB2.0 PCI card to add an external 1TB drive. No sign of capacitor problems (I figure it...
Wow - getting tips on descent :)
This was one of my favorite games - I purchased 3dfx voodoo card and a creative labs sound card and more memory just to play this game. The Glide (OpenGL visuals) was fantastic and the IPX network play was great (although tricky to set up). I forget what third...
Picked Antec 900 up in Harrisburg PA today for $68 + tax. Cheaper than my standard online (New_egg) vendor that has it for $104. No rebates, no waiting. Thanks OP.
This is a very good magazine. My subscription expires sometime in 2011 or I would get this one. If I remember correctly, this was originally "Boot". Regardless, good hardware reviews and good instructional articles. Nice to have a hardcopy mag every now and then!
I have this power supply and it is very nice quality (plus five year warranty). When I upgraded to a quad core with higher power video cards, my Neo 550w supply would not even boot the board most times. I eventually pinned it down to the power supply and purchased this one (I think I paid ~...
I have a few socket 370 heatsinka w/fan and I would gladly sent one to you. I appreciate someone keeping old hardware running and used. I still run a Pentium 233MMx for a simple theatre sound system. It works exceptionally well for that purpose and only needs a 100w Power Supply. PM me if...
