Putting dell crap into a new case.

The XP license from OEM computers will be valid to install windows XP from a standard disc, but will not usually activate over the internet. If nothing has changed in the ~9 months since I've done it last, Microsoft WILL give you an activation code over the phone. Tell them it's only installed...

Is it possible?

It might be possible... we moved some prebuilt systems into cheap custom cases a few times when their original power supply died. I don't know why you'd want to waste a nice lian-li case on a dell personally, but it's up to you...

What would you do if ALL of your movies DISAPPEARED

An Xbox with XBMC installed works great as a low-budget and basically rock solid HTPC - rip the movies, FTP them over, open it on the Xbox and watch it. I did a project for my boss where we ripped his collection of 400 DVD's onto 2 Xbox's with a 250gb drive in one and a 400gb in the other...

New hard drive - but also want to keep old hd

Yeah, I'd just install windows on the 500 and then copy the files over. It will recognize it fine, it'll just assign the partitions a different letter than they were when the drive was the system drive (C becomes E if D is used for a CD drive, D is F, etc) Keeping the 160 as a spare is a good...

Hearing loss...

Recording levels, ambient noise, amount of fluid/wax in your ears all come into play there. You can't really duplicate a sound level in that environment. As to raising the volume to counteract hearing loss, that's a really good question that I don't have an answer to... Seems to me it would...

Apparently they dont really care what people think, because in surfing, some of them must come across boards where people say how they don't like the new channel. I used to like the screen savers, I'd watch it every day if possible, but now it's total crap. The only decent show now is...

I signed up a while back. Great host, its down occasionaly, but for the price, who cares? Shell acess is great, and the speeds between it and my other server are pretty dang decent.

abit nf7-s not seeing cpu!

Is the hard drive NTFS formatted, or not partitioned? That would explain command prompt not seeing it. As to the CPU thing... Not really sure there. Can you change the settings and get it to run at the real speed for a 2500? Probably 200MHz FSB, and 9x multiplier.

If you didn't game would you upgrade as often?

I upgraded from an 800MHz celeron with 384 of ram and a GF2. Even if I didn't game, it would have been time for an upgrade. In a couple more years I probably wont upgrade just yet, even if some good games come out, since I'll need the money for other things.

CLEAR CASES PROS AND CONS

I know someone who has an acrylic case. He loved it at first, but changed his mind. He did say he could stand on it without it breaking... no idea why someone would stand on their computer though... I guess the dirt and etc just showed up really well, and it wasn't designed well so it took...

Housemate having weird wireless problems...

Did you try running the Network Setup wizard? it seems like it would be a gateway/DNS server problem... the wizard auto-configs that and almost always helps, unless you have custom settings.

UPDATE****I GOT THE XFX*** Which Video card should I get

I have the XFX card.. it's pretty nice - I'm using the dual monitor feature now, and it's really fast and etc in games. I'd say go with that one.

POLL : With the new arrivals from Apple.... would you buy it...??

I'm diggin' the ipod shuffle, even if they are trying to sell it based on a feature that's available in almost all music devices (shuffle). I like the USB storage feature also.. Any better alternatives for MP3 players in that price range that double as USB memory sticks?

Sounds like the 6800 is drawing too much power for the PS to handle, and the memory won't run properly. What kind of PSU is it? EDIT: Since the motherboard is a low end one, that might support my theory - it might try to run, but not push enough current to the memory, instead of not running...

How loud should a typical hard drive be?

If you have more than like.. one case fan, you shouldn't be able to hear the drive over the fan noise. I have 6 (counting power supply), and certainly can't hear the difference between spinning up and idling on my WD SE. A faster/louder drive like the raptor shouldn't make much difference.

Removing Heatsink and Cleaning CPU

I just kinda hold the CPU by the side, and slide it off the heatsink. Might need to twist it a bit, also. Clean the thermal paste off with isopropyl alchohol and cue-tips.

NEC nd-3500a for emachine

Most CD drives are the same size.. that being said, DVD burners are a bit longer, so it'd stick out a little farther in the back than a regular CD-ROM probably would, so if the drive is close to being out of room, maybe not.

I'd prefer a good 15" LCD to that 17"... Probably a case with a better power supply also, but that's just me. And maybe a brand name DVD burner - the NEC 3500 is only slightly more.

Congrats. I was listening to some of those (I think it was that model) at best buy, I was pretty impressed at the sound quality. My house is far too small to have a powerful speaker system and take advantage of it, I'll have to stick with my weak harmon/kardon set.

RMA Abuse.

I bought a DFI LanParty UT NF3 from them, nice board but it had problems, so I RMA'd it. I selected the repair option, but refund minus 15% was one also.

What's wrong with Thermaltake?
