Instability with new C2D E6850 and EVGA 680i SLI (all stock clocks)

A fluctuation of 5% is usually okay; did you take those measurements via software or multimeter? Things look okay though from PSU side of things. Seems to me like core #1 is the problem, so I would focus attention on the processor.

That's right, it wouldn't let me. Everything is cool now; as long as the drives appear as boot and storage, from left to right as I see it in My Computer, things are dandy. Thanks again for your help.

In posts on several forums I've seen people reply to another post by saying: "I see the words..." What does that mean? Does it mean they are in agreement with what was written? Or does it mean something like: "I see the words, but don't agree" ? Thanks for feedback!

Can you try the card in your friend's computer (since you've ruled your computer out as being a problem)? If its problematic in his comp too, then that would suggest a faulty card.

First, try memtest your RAM. It is possible that you might just need to adjust a few settings on your memory to get it to work. If you can't pass memtest, then don't worry about installing WIndows; it will likely get corrupted, and even if it does not, you may experience instability farther...

Perhaps it was a corrupted install (just a guess)? Is this a new build and what components are you using? Can you boot with the drive before loading windows without problems (for example, set drive as primary boot device in BIOS, put in Windows disc, and act like you are going to reinstall)...

Two 256 7800 GTXs or One 512 7800 GTX?

If you're going with a dual-rail PSU, make sure it is on the approved vendors list if possible. Those two cards plus some peripherals will be running off of one of those 12v rails (the other feeds CPU). I would simply go with a single-rail PSU with beefy 12v capacity.

Help with DFI nF4-SLI board... Never mind, I found the problem

I take it you are running 2 sticks of RAM? Try memtest with only a single stick, then adjust timings, command rate (CPC), and voltages as needed. Start by manually inputting stock RAM timing and voltage values at 2T.
