Well it was a tough call but a) this thread happened a month ago b) limited by the below average ATI X1300 video card, so a Core 2 Duo really wouldn't help with games

I'm sorry but for those 99.9% of us who aren't multi-millionares, I'd rather take a 1900XT for half the price and 80% the performance of the 7950GX2...

*Hot* Logitech Z-2300 $80 shipped

must...resist...my own hot deal post... I know this may sound crazy, but can I just use my Z-640 (cheaper, smaller) subwoofer with these Z-2300 satellites just fine and safely? Reason is that subwoofer is much smaller and not as boomy/loud...

Well, as some have mentioned it seems you need to pair this with a hot-rod top of the line Conroe for it to reach its potential. Anything less and you're bottlenecking...

AIW X1900 vs. 6800nu

Someone has a PC with a nVidia 6800nu (128mb GDDR1) plus separate TV Tuner card. How much of a gaming upgrade would an ATI All-In-Wonder X1900 (256mb GDDR3) be? And how is this nice all-purpose card selling at some places for ~$240ish or less when its big brother X1900 XT is $100 more?

Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion for PC $29.90 at Gogamer

Great overall rig to be sure, but the video card will slow you down/bottleneck in terms of Oblivion at max settings/high res. Oblivion really shines with ATI X1900 XT/X series of cards (and the upcoming X1950 and R80 R600 next gen cards).

How can I record internet/streaming video on my PC?

Hi guys, I hope I have the right forum. My dad watches some streaming Romanian TV video on his new PC, and he asked me if there was a way to record some of these shows for later viewing. What is a good (cheap/free) method of doing this, does anyone know?

ETA on X1950 XT (R580 refresh)?

I've read a few times that the final refresh for this current generation of non-DX10 ATI cards will be a X1950 XT/X (likely to compete with the GX2 7950). Any rumor/preview sites out there? If it's scheduled to be out in a month or two, I may wait to see how it is...

Aww my HIS X1900 XT IceQ3 order has been cancelled

Their website was a little behind the times showing the card was in stock and apparently they got flooded with too many ordered and were unsuccessful in trying to get more of these cards from their suppliers. Oh well back to the drawing board for me, what should I do now? What do you guys...

Just saw a 24" Up Close... UPDATE, Now with poll!

We are happy you are happy. But our point was that the vast majority of the consumer market I bet is holding off from 24" LCDs because they are afraid they'll need to upgrade to a $500 vid card every 6 months to keep up. Sorry but I'd rather pay car insurance or something...if only LCDs scaled...

How can I see how many pipelines and vertex shaders I have?

Actually other details shown were 256mb RAM and 400mhz core. I guess I had a 256 variety nu card and the BIOS flashed on it upped the core speed to 400...

ZZF another x-fi deal xtreme music $60 AR

I'm still debating whether it's worth it from integrated mobo audio. 2 things holding me back is I don't listen to in game music often. And I have an X1900 XT running on a 2 year old Antec 480w PSU.

How can I see how many pipelines and vertex shaders I have?

Thanks Navid. It is showing as successfully unlocked. So my eVGA 6800nu actually shows up as a 6800 Ultra, 16 Pipelines (up from 12), 6 Vertex Shaders (up from 5). I'd imagine it's somewhere in between the original NU and real Ultras in terms of performance... Interestingly it shows 1...

AIW X1900 for $235

Wow great price at 2xx.. it's back up to 4xx on that link...great value at where it was, particularly if you can OC it (without cutting the life expectancy in half which I surmise most OCing does).

MSI Radeon X1900 XT 289 After Rebate

That is a nice deal if the rebate works. I saw a similar XT deal for 289 after 100 rebate the other day, but it was an OEM, this is retail with I assume a longer warranty. I don't think any card in that $290 price range can even compete...this is only 25/50 away from ATI's flagship best card...

Over a year ago, there was a famous long thread that showed how to update certain eVGA 6800NUs BIOS to the Ultra pretty easily and I believe also unlock extra pipelines and vertex shaders. I did that successfully and ran tests and all seems ok (never saw any artifacts. I don't believe I'm...

From what I've read so far, 1920x1200 would require at the minimum an X1900XT for Oblivion. I want to expand this thread into a question: How many of ya'll love the idea and cost of 24" LCDs (particularly the Dell) but are just afraid to go for it because to handle new games well it will...

Crysis Tech Preview

Unless game developers are compensated for taking such a risk, I don't see why they would do it. For example, if this Crysis game turns out to be only really playable on a dual/quad GPU system, they will hardly sell games at all. I mean seriously, what % of computer users/gamers have 2...

How come we expect $500 PCs and accept $500 Video Cards?

LOL Thraxen. Didn't you hear the next step is a separate AI (artificial intelligence) card. Afterall, we need to keep offloading tasks and chores from these ever-advancing and complex, do-it-all, multi-core CPUs so it can concentrate on more important things like email, Excel and binary math.

Decided on going with an x1900xt

If you are uncomfortable modding, you may want to consider the HIS x1900xt IceQ3 (bout $350 AR on one or two sites, comparable to generic ones). Google some reviews, there are good reviews saying it's quieter and cooler.

If mismatched FSB/RAM megahertz means I get a laptop for $700 when most everyone else charges 50-100% more, I'm cool with that! Not like it will be buggy or anything, it's probably just slight bottleneck of 2% lol. As for as 7200 vs. 5400, again.. I highly doubt it's a wise choice of $100 to...

The leap to Core 2 Duo Merom will be significant. However keep in mind a few things which I am speculating here but I hope intelligently. (and is the reason I pulled the trigger now rather than later...) 1) When the Meroms will be widely available, it is highly unlikely Dell (or anyone)...
