Thanks for the info guys. I think I'll either try one of the heatsink suggestions or oil the fan. The Zalman ZM-NBF47 looks interesting, but it bends over so far I think it will hit one of the other motherboard parts so I'm not sure that one would work.
I have a very basic PC at work using the NF7-M which is an nForce 2 board with integrated GeForce 4 video. Runs fine, is perfect for work.
Just this past week, one of the fans inside has become very noisy. The fan is failing or has just decided to become annoying. I have narrowed it down...
Reason I ask is that my mobo can support up to 4GB, but if you fill all 4 slots with 1GB double-sided DIMMS, then they will run as DDR333 instead. I'm not sure how huge of a difference that would make, but figured I'd look for some single-sided and decide if it was worth it. I can't find any...
I had this same error when I first setup my system, although it was a different nforce4 mobo. I fixed it when I uninstalled/disabled the nforce firewall. I just use the hardware firewall in my router now.
I uninstalled the network manager and unfortunately, still have the occasional blue screen with it listing the same IRQ error. Guess I shouldn't have expected that to fix it seeing as how I only removed software and did not fix whatever driver issue I am having.
I get an occasional blue screen/restart even when my system is sitting idle. Tonight, I caused the issue when I attempted to disable my primary ethernet connection.
In my reading, I've found that this issue is likely due to the nForce4 firewall. I have it disabled, but don't see a way to...
Anyone know what the exact issues are that Anandtech described in their latest buying guide regarding this board and the San Diego and Venice cores? I've had zero issues with mine and I'm running a 3700+ San Diego. I'll have to check what Bios version I'm on, didn't notice if it shipped at 1.0...
I just setup a new system today using the OCZ Modstream 450w power supply. Here are my system details.
MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum
Athlon 64 3700+ (San Diego)
2-512MB Corsair low latency twin paired dimms
74GB WD SATA 10,000 RPM
ATI Radeon X800 XL PCI-E
CD Drive
Floppy
OCZ Modsteam 450w...
chucky2, I am building a 64-bit machine this week and will be installing WinXP Pro 32-bit. Can you give me some more detail on what to look for regarding the chipset drivers? Is there something specific to look for?
One last question (I think)...
Anyone know if the Corsair memory flatbastard mentioned is single-side or double-side? I looked both on monarch and corsair and couldn't find the info. If they are double, I don't believe I will have an upgrade path down the road if I decide I want to add more...
Only 2? Right now, 1 gig total might be ok but I guess I am thinking down the road. I guess that would work for the time being, then later I could add 2 more for a total of 2GB.
However, it looks like I would either have to get single side DDR400 dimms or double side DDR333 if I ever plan...
I think I will go with the 3700+ SD, they are in stock over at Monarch.
I'm unsure what to do ram wise though. Specs on the motherboard ram config can be seen here: http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8N_Neo4_Platinum&class=mb
Suggestions on ram? I was going to just buy...
Thanks for the quick replies. :)
I thought both San Diego and Venice had SSE/SSE2/SSE3 instructions? I do indeed want to be futureproof. I managed to make my current rig last 3.5 years without upgrades, but it has seen it's limits now when it comes to games.
I'll download the latest bios...
Now that Athlon 64 chips are out with new cores, I'd like to build a new machine. Here are the specs of what I plan to build, followed by some questions I'd like advice on:
Athlon 64 3500+ (or higher)
MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum
1GB DDR400 Ram x 2 (probably from Crucial and may expand to 4GB...
I'm in a similar situation. Going to build, but trying to wait for Venice core as well as 64-bit XP Pro. Here is what I want to put together:
MSI K8N Neo4 (Not sure if I will go SLI or not)
Athlon 64 3500+ or higher (Venice)
74gb Raptor SATA 10,000 rpm
160gb Maxtor HD
Sony CD/RW
PCI-X...
Two things I need help on: tips on how to get the clip in place and 2nd, should I buy thermal paste and if so, what kind? (three things I guess :)
I'm trying to install a new Athlon XP 3000 in my Abit NF7-M and for the life of me, I can't get the retention clip down and in place. As I press...
I built my current machine in January 2001. I know it's old, but I'm trying to hold out for when there are more PCI-X solutions to choose from.
My specs:
Athlon 1700+ XP
MSI nForce K7N420 Pro
512 meg of Crucial DDR PC2100
Geforce 3 video card
Win XP Pro SP2
I leave this machine on...
