Question Unwise to reuse a mobo from a system where the CPU died?

I built a system with a 1700x a few years back and it was solid, on 24/7, until last month. I suspect a lightning storm could have killed it. I was away at work and I couldn't boot to bios when I came home. (RGB) RAM, CPU fans, case fans, GPU power light and fans would spool or light up for a...

Are laptop screens interchangeable with their different resolution counterparts?

Found the answer, yes, to my model in particular. http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/e6510-1366x768-to-1920x1080-direct-swap.621175/ Thanks for the insight!

Are laptop screens interchangeable with their different resolution counterparts?

I picked up a Dell Latitude e6510 and it has a 1366x768 screen. Other models of the laptop have 1600x900 and 1080p screens. It may be a dumb question but they should be useable on my device right?

Is there a program that emulates an LED Ticker?

I've searched around and haven't found anything good. Here's what I mean by ticker, http://www.specialtystoreservices.com/productdetails.aspx?productid=840&group=&img=4680N.jpg&gclid=CjwKEAjwz_-nBRC0zbDb_YOT1TgSJACW2VEC3RBDY1hMnn9_8k84z0ZHaQTL9WzyroYqxpSGY8hPpBoCJT_w_wcB There's a Windows Metro...

    Linux Mint 17.1

Mint is a great starting place. I just started using it myself. I've never tried using Linux as a main OS before but Mint is extremely easy and has plenty of functionality out of the box. If you've used OSX before you might feel right at home. I would dive into the system prefences and check...

Best OS to use for battery life

I've installed the new hardware and will put it through its paces the next few days. I've stuck with Cinnamon since it seems to be extremely user friendly and this is the first machine on which I'll be using Linux full time. Here's a little gem I've found from 2008...

Best OS to use for battery life

I actually have Cinnamon installed on the HDD right now. SSD should be here tomorrow. Even though it has a bit more eye candy than Xubuntu, it seems to get just as good battery life. As a test, I've tested the Win 10 Preview and it was nowhere as smooth as either.

Best OS to use for battery life

I've been using Chromebooks for while and decided to roll my own cheapo laptop. Found a 11.6 Acer with a Celeron N2830 Dual-core 2.16 GHz. It has a spinning HDD and 2GB ram. I'm stoked to see it's running Xubuntu is running quite well and showing 6 hours of battery life. I've ordered an SSD and...

    iPhone 2014: It's time.

Anyone think if there is a 5.5" model that it could get 2gb as a differentiator from the 4.7"? Everything else could be the same but the 5.5" would be $100 more.

Windows alternative to the MacBook Air? (i.e. best ultrabook?)

The XPS 13 is very appealing right now, $899 on MS Store (promo code GRADUATION). I know Apple are actually well priced but I'm trying to stay away from Apple, I've owned 2 Macbooks, 4 iPhones, 2 iPads and I've been off of Apple for two years now. XPS 13 has a glass trackpad as well, the newest...

    Thoughts on the Acer c720?

It works well but I use it maybe less than 10% of the time. It's not essential. If I'm showing someone a document it's nice to scroll thru with it. But I really bought it in thinking Chrome will add more touch gestures and functionality in the near future. Under Linux the touch screen worked...

    Thoughts on the Acer c720?

The HP 14 has haswell aswell. I own the Samsung S3 3G since launch and recently purchased the c720P since I'm all in with ChromeOS. The 3 negatives from the Samsung were speed, trackpad and screen. These are all improved on the c720P. I installed elementaryOS (linux) just to try it out. If you...

Dell Inspiron 11 3000 is what you want. It's on the Microsoft store for cheaper than Dell plus none of the bloatware.

    Chromebook Refresh

Supposedly there will be a Haswell/Touchscreen Chromebook unveiled within the next week. As for the lower cost ARM variant, there's rumor of an octa-core Chromebook coming before years end. I currently have the 3G ARM Samsung, it's lovely. I bought it when it first came out. I will probably get...

Buying a new (used) car within the month. Focused on mpg, what'd you buy under $20k?

I think I may have found the car, an unused 2011 CR-Z LX for well under MSRP. The LX was what I was looking for, I don't need NAV or nicer lights.

Buying a new (used) car within the month. Focused on mpg, what'd you buy under $20k?

That was my concern also with ta used Insight and Prius, a replacement costs anywhere from 1,000 to 2,5000 + labor. Which is not terrible in the long run. The Focus isn't too bad and I've actually test driven the Fiesta. It's nice and a real good price.

Buying a new (used) car within the month. Focused on mpg, what'd you buy under $20k?

With gas hitting $4 and will most likely go up this summer I decided to sell my 98 Honda CR-V. I sold it personally for $4000 so I have a pretty substantial down payment if I were to get something pricey. I'd love a real small car that can get great mpg. I'm single, no kids, no real need to...

Any program that backs up file names/folder hierarchy, not the actual files?

I have a HDD crapping out on me, I can't copy anything off the drive. I was just hoping to get a snapshot of what files and folders are on the drive.

Is this a symptom of a dying PSU or is it just too weak?

Fan in PSU will spin. GPU fan will spin on very low. And CPU fan will sometimes spin on low, totally not spin or stutter indefinitely as if it wants to start spinning. HDD light will flash in rhytm will the fans. The speed of all these things are not constant, sometimes faster/slower. This...

    Metro 2033......Spoilers Inside.

This was definitely a fun, albeit short, game. There were some intense moments for me where I had low health, ammo, health packs and filters and I would just run like hell to get to a checkpoint.

Moving iTunes from Vista to OS X? How to?

There is an "itunes Library.itl" (i think for windows) and "itunes library" for mac and "itunes music library.xml" for both. I recently switched my 300gb plus itunes collection from w7 to os x. You've already consolidated and checked itunes to keep your stuff organized now take a good text...

What do you think of Uncharted 2?

I picked this up when Toys R Us had buy 2 get 1 free, me and two friends bought the game. The single player was real nice, I finished it on hard the first time through and I want to do crushing for the challenge (and platinum trophy). But the multiplayer is where it's at. I liked W@W and...

    So who's drinking coconut water?

I actually cut the juice with water, a 1:1 ratio and it turned out pretty well. I do this with all sports drinks and juices just to keep things light.

Oh yeah, I never thought about that. I'll check them out tomorrow. I just knew they had it at the market since I go there frequently.

    So who's drinking coconut water?

I actually bought it for other reasons too. It does taste great but on the show Three Sheets, check it out on Hulu if you like to partake in the occasional alcoholic beverage ;), it's a great hangover cure.

    So who's drinking coconut water?

I haven't had any problems with just water and eating a good amount of potassium but people seem to be pretty stoked about coconut water. I'm having a hard time trying to find it locally and just went to one of the many asian/oriental markets and picked up four 14 oz cans of coconut water with...

Favorite "power" foods you purchase at the store.

Dude you are hardcore with the whys haha. But yeah, I should have elaborated on the light lifting. I'll check out the book though. I lift lighter weights ranging from 10-20lbs with high repitions to build up the core and essential muscles for tennis. And it has greatly improved my play over...
