    Picture in Picture Woes

You can't do it on 650...You'll need the 750 series to do digital PIP....(it is a known issue, look on AVS forums). Also watch out for garbled text with PCs on the 650 series (that's why i returned mine for a 750)....

    [Retired] The LCD Thread

LOL - Yes, oldie but goodie i dug up to test out my htpc at the time! :) Well the panel is always in 120Hz mode, but the AMP engine (aka frame interpolation) works beautifully, especially with HD sourced materials such as Blu Ray. Very natural, and gives the movie a whole new look. 240Hz mode...

    [Retired] The LCD Thread

FYI - Most newer panels (like my Sammy 52" 750) has a "Game Mode" where the internal video post processing engine is essentially disabled for almost no lag. However, you lost such options as the Frame Interpolation Engine and other Settings. However, the panel itself will still operate at 120Hz...

    [Retired] The LCD Thread

Just want to mention something that i find particular interesting happening in today's consumer market: the marriage of everyday TV's and computers. A couple of days ago I bought my new 52" Samsung LN52A750 LCD HDTV. Having been an ardent HTPC user for years, I was skeptical of the support from...

    Opteron 165 Running HOT

When I had my Opty 165, it idled around 30-32C and maxed out around 45-47C fully loaded PRIME. Mind you, this was overclocked to 2.5GHz but undervolted to 0.98V and also de-lidded IHS with a monstrous Ninja Scythe HSF across it. YMMV, but I think your temps are all too high.

Intel?s first Nehalem mobo is X58

why is x58 a 2 chip solution? It should be like nvidia to integrate both north/south bridge together since the MCH is on the cpu now. Looks like a rushed job on Intel's part, IMHO.

    Lite-On Blu-Ray ROMs for PC

Incorrect. I've had both the -11 and -8. Both come with PDVD BD SE version (stripped PDVD version). The OEM version faceplate is slightly different (doesn't have the plastic metallic ejector button and funky "bumps" on it). Get the OEM as it works exactly the same and saves you $$$

I had the same problems with lapping my Scythe Ninja. Once you've done it enough, you learn just to go slowly and that will lead to better results. Q6600 Core Layout?

Just to play devil's advocate here, but after owning / playing with 4 Yorkfields and 3 Wolfdales, I've noticed the following: 1) not all cores are made equally: even on a single core Wolfdale, there can be 5C+ variance from core to core. That's just silicon wafer process variance. When you...

    QX9770 Temperature

temperature is still a function of power dissapation / consumption and with the 45nm utilizing less current and voltage, this will in turn lower temps too.

Is the Q9300 worth upgrading to?

While the Q9300 does get quite toasty, it doesn't get as hot as say the Q9450 (probably because of the cache disparity). My Q9300 runs at a very cool 41C idle / 54C load and this is with a fanless Scythe Ninja setup. To the OP - I came from a Opty 165 setup (Overclocked to 3.0GHz actually)...

HOWTO: Minimizing Vcores and Operating Temps-MUST READ

Although a nice guide on VTT/MCH tuning, the title subject is rather misleading.
