The desision has been made for me; mobo seems to be dead. Dang it!
Now looking looking at an i5 4690k and a Z97 mobo ($125-$175) and a 970 GTX. Will reuse everything else.
Anyone want to recommend a mobo?
"Fairly cheap" on the CPU would be less than about $125.
What I'd like to do is get another 2-3 years out of this rig and then build another midrange beast, which is what this was (roughly) in it's day. I feel like the demands of new games have slowed down a quiet a bit (or I have!) so my...
1. Uses: Gaming: modern FPS, MMRPGs (Guild Wars 2)
2. Budget: Id like to keep it around $550. This upgrade is all about price for performance.
3. Country: USA
4. OUTSIDE the US?: N/A
5. Brand Preference: Not a fan of Seagate. No, it is not rational. Move on; nothing to see here.

Dune 2 . . . I think that was my first RTS. Man I loved that game.
On topic, I have a PIII 550 that still sees weekly use and a Athlon 2100+ that my kids use all the time for basic web. That Athlon was the first computer I ever assembled, going on 10 years ago. Dang.
Tiger Direct has some too, found through Amazon.

Check your link. It's listed on the search page for what you posted, but when you click the link, here or inside amazon, it comes up wrong.
Here's the right link for $89.99-$25.00 rebate=$64.99AR w/ free standard shipping.

Translation: The IRS implemented the plan poorly.
Translation: Congress wrote and the White House approved a poorly written law.
Ok, so which is it? From the rest of the article, it sounds like the IRS didn't write the new tables correctly; it smacks of the bureaucratic screw up, not a...
I the Steam deal for Mass Effect isn't on any more, but this deal to pick up Pinnacle Station still works. It takes a few minutes, but it is free. I just used it a few hours ago.
Yet you're posting about it on ATOT, thus it will be a short time until you get your new title. You could make it a race: marriage or new title first? ;)
I'm not positive, but I believe that information is correct. However, if you buy it through Steam, the installation issue won't be the same; it will use Steam to verify instead.
OK, if you have that many (227!) I can see your point. I've only have 20 some games so it never really bothered me; I guess I just don't have that much time to play. :|
Steam already has a favorites list. Just put whatever you're playing right now up there.
Thanks for the deal, OP. I may have to pick this back up to get ready for # 2.
My first thread I started.
Multiprocessor Gaming - Advantages and Disadvantages
I would have thought we'd have come further in the past 5 years. Most games are still single threaded.
I miss the :beer; icon, and I don't even drink. :(
The bolt though kit mostly takes care of that, but yes you have to be careful. If you have a machine you're going to be moving around a lot, you don't want to be careless if you have have a monster heatsink.
With the particular scenario they set up, it might be prudent to rig a little extra...
One run one stick at a time only if you get a failure when running them all. The purpose of running one at a time is to isolate the bad stick if it's just one stick. Of course, you could find out they're both bad, which always sucks.
If you have another Memtest that's running fine, just let...
Run it one stick at a time. See if one of the sticks is bad.
A lock up is a hard failure. Last time I ran into that, I had a bad stick, well two actually.
Another possibility is that the version of Mentest86 you have can't fully support the newer hardware. Not sure on that; I'd have to...
Well, there you go. I learn something new every day. I already implemented the "fix" on my system. Of course, I needed the P/S2 keyboard to make the change in the BIOS, but everything was good after that. Fixed a problem I'd given up on. Many thanks!
If you have a USB keyboard (like most people do these days), some motherboards won't recognize them until you've booted into the OS. I have this problem on my Abit P35 Pro. I have to plug in a p/s2 keyboard to get into my BIOS, etc. if I need to do anything prior to the OS loading. Very...
Isn't shark skin rough for the same reason? Reduces drag making the shark faster & a more efficient swimmer?
I don't think so, or at least there is still an effect if it isn't spinning. Check out the "large golf ball" wind tunnel test @ about 18:00.
