  1. We are the "loud neighbors"

Our combined weight is less than 260lbs. Not sure about walking heavy... I've never thought about that. I am flat footed, though, so maybe.
  2. We are the "loud neighbors"

No doorman, it's a small and cheap apartment. I wouldn't be surprised if our building is poorly constructed...we hear all of our neighbors too but being just out of college, we ignore it. I'm almost tempted just to go on living life and when they come up again, tell them to deal with it. I mean...
  3. We are the "loud neighbors"

I live in a studio apartment in Manhattan with my girlfriend. Small place, like 350sqft, but we are comfortable. Problem is, the couple who lives below us can't handle how "loud" we are. Which is strange, because we are some of the quietest people I know. We don't have people over, we don't...

  6. The Shrew: Most disgusting rodent (not actually a rodent) in existence

I've always been a fan of sticky traps. I know they're brutal but sometimes it's the only thing that works. Then we got a cat.
  7. Mechanical engineers... I need some help

Load should be pretty constant. I said "up to 50lbs" because I'm not sure exactly how heavy it will be yet. Pulleys + counterweight seems like a good idea, I just figured those pneumatic door things are simpler and more compact as the mechanism is packaged into a relatively small tube.
  8. Mechanical engineers... I need some help

One last note. Some examples I was looking at are things like car trunk doors, manual garage doors, balanced arm articulating lamps, etc. That's the type of motion I'm looking for. Thanks!
  9. Mechanical engineers... I need some help

Power screw would be too slow, and I prefer not to have any electronics involved. I want the motion to be possible through just lifting the weight with arms/hands.
  10. Mechanical engineers... I need some help

Sorry, more details. The motion is just vertical. Distance travel should be about 3 ft or so. Speed should be pretty rapid, be able to cover the 3 ft within a few seconds.
  11. Mechanical engineers... I need some help

Hey all, For a project I'm working on for school I basically need to come up with a mechanism that can move a somewhat heavy load (up to 50lbs) up and down on a rail rather effortlessly, and stay in place at any point along the rail, without breaking the bank. I looked briefly into balanced...

  13. Box wine in new york...

Well considering that I've never had Franzia before... I may be in for a surprise :D I'll take the pain for the sake of festivities. I mean, I'm in college, I'm pretty sure I can take it at this point in my life. Thanks for the warning though.
  14. Box wine in new york...

Haha, I'm in the financial district, there's a Gristedes half a block away, and I've never been inside. 24-hour Jubilee is just too convenient.
  15. Box wine in new york...

I realize that Franzia is not good. But the point is that it's Franzia, for the Tour de Franzia, and we're drinking wine to get drunk, not to drink wine. I mentioned that I don't drink wine ever and I'm pretty sure I can't the difference between good wine and bad wine, it all tastes the same to...
  16. I-Dosing?

That's actually what I thought this thread was about when I read the title.
  17. Box wine in new york...

Do any of you New Yorkers know where I can find box wine in the city? The TDF is over in like five days so I figured we'd have our own little tour de franzia to celebrate. I've tried quite a few liquor stores and grocery stores and I can't seem to find it. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places...
  18. 360 fisheye effect in photoshop...

I'm trying to create some high resolution environment maps for Rhino using panoramas and I came across this site... http://www.sparse.org/3d.html If you look at the first two images, they are just two 180° fisheye shots, back to back. Then, the next row of images he combined the two for what...
  19. Thinking about moving back to PC...

Okay guys, I ended up getting an HP Elitebook 8540w. I went with HP because our school gives the architecture students Elitebooks for AutoCAD and Rhino, though I'm not sure why we get Macs. I was able to take a look at my friends' HPs and they seem quite nice, though their components are a...
  20. Quadro... FX vs. NVS?

Hmm, I did a little searching on my own and all I could find was that the NVS series are optimized for 2D applications, while the FX series are for 3D. Looks like the choice, for me, is pretty clear. Thanks all.
  21. Quadro... FX vs. NVS?

Hey all, I'm considering buying a new HP Elitebook to replace my Macbook Pro that I had stolen (insurance covered it, I have plenty of money to spend). I'm currently looking at the 8540 line, which includes both the 8540w and 8540p. Both laptops are essentially the same, except that the "w"...
  22. Thinking about moving back to PC...

Well the thing is, ultimately I still spend more time on the Mac side, because right now I prefer OSX to XP Pro. The only time I'm ever on the windows side is when I'm using Solidworks or Rhino. But you're definitely right. There's a huge premium to pay for a nice OS interface and a thin...
  23. Thinking about moving back to PC...

Because I prefer 15", and the Thinkpad W510 with i7-820QM, Quadro FX 880M, 4GB ram, 320GB HDD and 9-cell battery is $1929 with the current sale. Although I don't really know the difference between FX and NVS, and I'm not sure if I'll be better off with 8GB ram instead of 4. Any pointers? It's...

  25. Thinking about moving back to PC...

Hey everyone, For the past couple of years I had been using the Macbook Pro that all students get through the school as my main computer. Over the winter our house was robbed and my laptop got stolen. Fortunately, I had it fully insured and everything backed up. Worked with insurance for...
  26. What size outerwear would a 5 ft 1 ~120 lbs woman wear

But but but...I've only seen one girl in my life and she was not 5'4" and 150lbs...therefore whoever that is must be a fucking huge disgusting pig of a whale. Anyway coat =/= pant/dress. In tops, chest size is probably most important.

2P. But by now I'm reaaaally winging it.
  28. What size outerwear would a 5 ft 1 ~120 lbs woman wear

...between small and x-small... If you want an answer in numbers, it really depends on what type of outerwear you're talking.
