Has anyone here taken the linux+ certification exam?

Yep, $145 for OS and $145 for Hardware (Core). But most people buy vouchers for these tests, I took both of them for $170 or 180, can't remember. While A+ doesn't hold much weight, it really shouldn't since its an entry-level cert. Most companies look for three common certs in my expirence...

Half Life 2: Entanglement Glitch

I had a similar problem where Alyx said she was on her way and I waited forever. Nothing happened, no enemies, no Alyx, no nothing. I then looked around and found one dumb @ss enemy behind one the energy fields around the corner. Killed him and bingo Alyx showed up a second later.

Can you view the ip information? MAC addresss, IP address? If you can't hit the DHCP server, manually assign an address and see if you can ping it from another computer. Also try pinging the loop back address (127.0.0.1) to make sure that TCP/IP is properly installed.

Put my harddrive in the freezer ..

Update: Price now $9.xx (still not bad)! 6 Pack of compact fluorescent bulbs at Home Depot B&M for $6.00 + tax

Stopped by my HD and the price also was back up to 9.97. Since my electric bill is almost $30 a month I decided to hold off.

I just made my first purschase from Buy.com last friday. They had a great deal on the Logitech MX Duo. I then looked up their rating from resellersratings.com and I was surprised with how low their rating was. What has everyone's experience with them been?

WTF? New hard disk (1 month old) suddenly not accessible...

The drive should be fine. Try using Windows Recovery Console (off the CD) to repair the paritition. Or run chkdsk /f to run the next time you reboot..

Verify Maxtor Rumour?

All I can say is that I work in the IT department of a large corporation (#2 in their field). All new computers ordered come from Dell, and every one of them has a Maxtor drive in them.

Compressed Hard Drives

I take it that you're running Win 2K or XP. It really depends on what type of files are compressed. If they are used regurally then I would consider uncompressing those files. If they are used only once and a while, then leave them compressed.

It really depends on what version of Sysprep that you have. If you have 1.0, which comes with Win 2K then you can NOT duplicate different HD Controllers. If you have XP with Sysprep 1.1, then you can get around this. The newest version of Sysprep is available for DL from microsoft's site.

Sysprep will detect all PnP devices once the Setup Wizard starts up, but the HAL must be the same. Here he is moving from a different HD controller and mobo. Sysprep should not work in this instance. Sysprep would only work if he cloned the image off a machine that had the same basic hardware...

Poor Secondary IDE Slave Proformance

Nah, both optical drives are on the Secondary IDE channel. I decided to test file transfer with a 291MB file. With three tests the Sony averaged at 1.78MB/s. The Plextor averaged 4.5MB/s. Is this normal? Is the Sony drive just a piece of junk, or is something wrong here?
