New build freezes and hangs

Sounds like overheating. First thing I'd check is that the cpu cooler is installed correctly and that the cpu fan is operating. Is it the stock Intel cooler? Those push pins are not the most positive retention mechanism every invented. If you've got one of those cases with the cutout section...

ESD precaution question.

If it was the type of PSU that has an on/off switch so you can isolate it from AC power while working and you can measure decent continuity between the ground pin and the PSU case (obviously painted cases wouldn't be very useful) then that seems a reasonable setup to me. I personally use an ESD...

For quick and dirty test work here, don't bother cleaning and reapplying the thermal paste. I tend to try and make sure that the heatsink is aligned the same way between fittings but this will be fine for short periods. I'd be tempted to try the board off the antistatic bag at least once more...

I built a system based on the X58 Sabretooth for someone last year. I seem to remember getting the same symptoms and IIRC I was using the wrong memory sockets. The CPU is listed by ASUS as compatible but the Corsair modules are not on the QVL. However, the RAM is shown on the Corsair website...

New computer issues (power supply?)

Depends on the quality of the PSU. It may be the problem but given the symptoms you describe, I'd check the CPU heatsink installation. Are you using the stock Intel cooler? Are you sure it's seated securely? Did you over clock your CPU/RAM? What make/model of PSU are you running? HTH UB

This might be your problem, there are two power cords for the motherboard. One big 24pin one and a smaller 4 or 8 pin auxilliary power connection for CPU. If the auxilliary power is missing, the system will not boot...

Popping noises whenever you hear sound

Seems to me that you should be looking at causes external to the PC's as I can't see any commonality - three different rigs and three o/s Is there an external amp involved? Does it happen with the headphones jacked directly into the pc?

You don't say which version of P5Q you have (there are quite a few variants) but if your case has a speaker (or the motherboard has one built in) - try pulling all devices (sound card/hard drive/video/memory) so that you have just PSU/Motherboard/CPU and FAN then power it up and see if it beeps...

If you don't have a hard disk connected or there's no bootable devices attached then 'Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk' is the normal startup message. When you say the keyboards not working, do you mean you can't get into the BIOS or something else?

AVG - removing infections

It's referring to removing the infected files from your PC. The reason why you get a choice of selected vs all is that if a critical system file is one of those infected and you remove it, your system may not work properly afterwards. Anything you're not sure of post back before removal

So, after booting with Windows CD, you deleted the partitions off both drives... then you recreated the partion on the WD drive and asked Windows to format and install on the WD drive. Now, you can boot from the WD drive into windows, but don't see the Seagate drive Correct so far...

Really does sound like a compatibility issue, mobo bios is not identifying the processor properly, spec should read 9x1333Mhz, not 6x333Mhz. There are two versions of the E8400 cpu (Sspec SLAPL/C0 stepping and Sspec SLB9J/E0 stepping), according to MSI website you need bios 7380v20 for the C0...

So the power to my computer goes dead shortly after I turn it on...

Make sure any USB peripherals are unplugged, if you can - disconnect any cables for case mounted usb ports from the motherboard. If it still won't start, check the rear usb ports for bent or damaged pins. If they're OK, most likely a bad PSU IMO UB

Right, 4 sticks - didn't notice that, but you're right the odds that all 4 are bad are astronomical. If you have another pc which you can use to test them, then maybe you could also swap CPU's to test this also? But if the RAM tests good in another rig, my money would be on the motherboard...
