I have a really strange problem...PC restarts on certain FMV's

Just a follow up, I bought a brand new EVGA GeForce 480 GTX and haven't had the problem since. So it seems like it was a defective video card that was the problem. Thanks for all your help everyone, appreciate it.

Okay I stress tested my video card and it doesn't seem to be the problem as it took everything the test could throw at it. I'll give the power supply the next try, see if a new one helps. Thanks again!

I have a really strange problem...PC restarts on certain FMV's

No BSOD messages of any sort. It just goes through the normal rebooting cycle. I'm not sure how to access the event log, and even If I did I'm not tech savy enough to figure out what it's meaning. The video card is still relatively new, only a year or so old. Should it be going bad this quick?

Well it's official, I am a total moron. I didn't have the 8 pin power connector in. I swear I looked over everything 100 times and didn't see anything unplugged but sure enough it was there. As soon as I plugged that in it booted right up. Thank you everyone for taking time to try and help...

I just read by someone who said that this board ONLY supports SLI. So does that mean I simply cannot use just one video card on this thing?

No I did not physically take it out, but I will next. One thing I wanted to mention is that the little digital number light up thing on the motherboard that cycles through numbers/etc DOES NOT light up. I didn't even know it was supposed to till 2 minutes ago when I saw a video on the EVGA...

Okay just tried it with having only the Video card, and 1 stick of ram in the right place and still same problem, no beeps, no signal on the monitor.

I plugged my laptop into the same cable side by side and it turned right on so I know the cable and monitor both work. Oh man I hope there isn't anything wrong with the motherboard. It's weird because all the lights on the motherboard work and show like it's okay, I just can't get a signal on...

2.5 gb RAM showing and I have 4

I have Windows Vista Ultimate, and I have 4 gb of OCZ Reaper Edition RAM. When I boot up, on the initial BIOS loading screen, 4gb shows up, but when I get to Windows, only 2.5 shows up. Anyone know what's going on with this? Thanks!

Well it wouldn't bother me except it isn't recognizing the second chip. It's only seeing one, and only 2 gb of RAM. I have two chips, and 4gb of ram in the system. I have a Asus L1N64-SLI WS board.

Hi I just put together two FX 74's in an ASUS L1N64-SLI WS board. Everything went smoothly, then I turn it on and it gives me a "CPU FAN ERROR" I resume and it boots and loads windows easily. Both CPU fans are running, I can see them moving at all times. Yet it only shows me one of my CPU's...

For all you wizards...I have a tough problem to fix...

Thanks everyone for all the help. I read through the 28 page thread about the "Squeal of Death" and found a fix. It involves turning the sound acceleration down to basic and it works great now. I didn't notice a change in sound or frame rate either,so it looks like it will work just fine...
