Performance Enhance option Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3x mobos

It is confusing. All I know is that I could not get my DS3L FSB to 400 while in 'Turbo' mode even with increased memory and core voltages. Using the 'Standard' setting allowed me to do so - and backed off the voltages to run cooler.

Just built System. Fan turns on but nothing happens

"What could be wrong? Is the 380W to small for my system." Was once in a similar situation. I had a 350W PSU (18A on +12 rail). Newly built system would power on for about 2 seconds and then go dead. It was suggested I try a more powerful PSU. I tried a 450W PSU (with over 25A on +12 rail)...

What's the best way to back up several terabytes of data?

I just set up a Naslite+ Server with an older unused computer I had. See: http://www.serverelements.com/ It was easy to set up and works great for me. Mine runs off the computer CD and there is no OS on the hard drive to get corrupted in a power outage. It can be accessed remotely so I...

    Thinking about getting an UPS

The purpose of a UPS is not only to protect your equipment from brownouts and surges but to keep the equipment running for a time in the event of power failure - depending on how much power the battery has. For your computer, in case of power outage you want to be able to save your work and...

Why is it that computer programmers know the least about hardware

I have an MS in computer science. Put together my own AMD computer. I routinely do hardware fixes of user computers at work (I work for a non-profit where often many duties are performed by few). Generalizations such as you have made are often nonsense.

best way to backup a desktop machine

I used the latest version of Acronis and had to do a restore. Discovered the files I restored via the folder/file option (as opposed to a full partition restore) resulted in numerous unusable corrupted files. Acronis acted as if everything was fine - it wasn't. Recommend that you test Acronis...

best way to backup a desktop machine

I do exactly as you describe. I use Norton Ghost 9 to backup my primary drive to my auxiliary drive. Ghost has a scheduling feature - you can schedule backups for anytime (I do it daily) and tell it how many backups of the same drive to keep (so it will automatically overwrite older image files...

    Antec P160 Questions

The P160 silver faceplates are connected to the case front not to the drives. Just recess the drives when installing (holes on the side of drive fit cage holes fine for this in my case). For the floppy I believed I removed the faceplate that came with the drive. I believe the faceplate of my DVD...

    Not Really New - But

I really don't think you need a 'theory' for operating multiple fans in your P160 - a jet engine maybe, but not your computer. I have a P160 with front and rear 120mm fans connected to a fan controller to control fan speed/noise. I usually have the rear fan running as fast as noise permits (I...

I use Tarma Installer to distribute programs: http://www.tarma.com/ Look under FAQ for the Autorun.exe program you can download. It will automatically run as soon as a CD-ROM is inserted into the CD drive of a computer if that feature is enabled by Windows. I don't know if it is what your...

i build my comp and need help asap!

Computer fans will/and should stay on while the computer is on. You can buy a fan controller to control fan voltage (some PSU's provide 'fan only' plugs) and slow fan speed to reduce noise. Some fans have integrated switches wihich allow you to set fan speed. If the fan stays on when you turn...

How is your CD set up? Is it on one of the IDE controllers separate from the SATA drive? It should have its own data cable and power cable. IDE controllers should be enable. I hope you went thru the BIOS settings on the link I provided. What make and model CD do you have?

Mrvile is correct - you usually do not need the SATA drivers on the floppy if you do not use RAID. Are you using RAID. If not, ignore the floppy and just boot from your CD making sure your BIOS is set up to boot from the CD. Can you boot from the CD?

    Future Silent PC build

FYI: The P180 uses Antec TriCool 3-speed fans. I do not have a P180 but did buy an Antec TriCool and discovered it must be run on it's lowest speed or the noise is very obvious - at least to me. I replaced it with an older Antec fan which seems to run much quieter at higher speeds. :disgust:

CPU/PSU Problems (Please, confirm or deny)

It is well known that recent AMD's need more power on the PSU's +12V rail. I checked the Antec website and saw no 350W TruePower 2. However, the 380W TPII had only 16A on the +12V rail which could surely cause problems. I initially tried a 350W PSU with 18A on the +12 rail on my AMD and it could...

Does the Antec P160 window version come with a rear blue led fan?

My windowed P160 came with 2 clear 120mm fans. The rear fan had a blue led. The front fan had no led. I have since made some changes to my case but that is what I remember upon first use. Enjoy the case. I like mine very much.

    Was this a "safe" buy?

I believe Antec sells a windowed (which I have) and a non-windowed version of the P160. Are you comparing the same versions? I thought the windowed version cost a little more - but that observation was made months ago and may not still be operable.

Data transfer from one computer to another

You should be able to easily install the old drive into the new computer. If on same cable as current drive be sure to set master/slave jumpers. If everything is set up properly the old drive should be recognized. Its easy, really. Then just drag and drop work files to the new drive. You...

    Swapping out hard drives

You will want to install Windows on the new drive first (don't connect your old drive until the new drive is up and running). The new drive will likely be much faster than your old one. Your new drive will then probably be your main C: drive. Now connect your old drive setting any jumpers if...
