Minimum CPU for DIVX avi playback?

I can run a .AVI file thorugh VLC on a 333mhz, with 128mb ram running XP SP2 - no lag on visual or audio

It seems like I'm getting to old for gamimg..

you should be able to find a bundle deal for a core upgrade (MB, CPU, RAM) which will work out the same price at the 1GB ram for the Laptop. Try and find a 2.5 Mobile Barton (hard to find now - but you can easily OC on nearly all MB's - even value ones) Leave the laptop as it is - everyone...

If I even open the package (cut the security seal) the company will say second hand. It's not the warrenty I'm worried about, I just want to make sure I have the right part before opening

I don't want to install it to find out. As mentioned before the company I bought if from are very anual about returns policy. Example if I ordered a part and find out it was something else to company will say "you will have to keep it 'cos it's now second-hand and we can't exchange it"

I have just recently purchased, what I beleive to be a A64 939 3.0Ghz 90nm Winchester retail. I there a way I can check to see if this is correct. (the company I odered from have a very crappy RMA policy so I don't want to put in my system untill I know exactly what it is)

What exactly is the purpose of Windows Media Center Edition?

You can obtain a trial version (!5 days I beleive) which sits on top of XP SP2, then when the days run out it automatically deletes itself. Those with a TV tuner card (with the right software support) can work their PC as a Tivo without having to fork out the extra money. My opinion: M$...

What exactly is the purpose of Windows Media Center Edition?

The only differences bewtween XP and MCE: MCE2005 is XP SP2 with a shell extension to run the GUI for your media. You can obtian MCE specific drivers for your graphics cards and TV tuner cards which will have better resolution (and advanced timing) support for outputting to quality TV's...

Bad timing....

I have built an AMD A64 939, PCIx graphics, 1GB, etc for less than what I payed for my G4 4400Ti several years ago. I think now is the best time to buy (or two weeks time when there is a slightly better MB choice out). For future proofing: Get a Nforce 4 SLi MB with a standard 6800GT...

The maximum temperature ceiling for P4's is 80 deegres celcius. The case temperature shouldn't be any more than 10 deegres above room temp

AMD 1700+ > AMD 64 3000 939

I beleive the 1.7 runs at 133mhz with only 256L2 cashe with a PR rating of around 1800. Compare that to the A64 with a PR rating of five figures - this depends slightly on the core and cashe size. The PR rating is equivilent (if I remeber rightly) to the original P2's. My friends P4...

How do people run on 1024x768??

Well I'm running 2560x1024@60mhz 'cos thats all the monitors are capable of - It does my freeking eyes in - I need it higher and at a minimun of 75mhz but don't have the money for it
