You have been absolutely no help! ;-) I got this idea while reading an article on theinquirer.net ( http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=36007) about how we don't need massive amounts of HD space and thought I would if I could find an easy system to install videos.

So what I need is some rich greedy bostich to design and manufacture a box that has Sony's and Universal's approval to rip DVDs in some proprietary format that would protect it from being pirated.

LOL.... ok. Lets start with this case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811204014 and add MB, memory, CPU a dvd player and Two 500Gb HDs. What software could I put on it that will detect a DVD and rip it to the HD just like Windows Media Player does with music CDs?

I just think the set-up I am thinking of should be easy to make. Finding software that is legal and can rip video may be a hurdle.

Both of these suggestions are the cobbled solutions i have already researched. I am looking for something more turn key. Put the DVD in and it automatically rips the videos to the built in HD. These solutions would involve having to buy illegal software to rip the DVDs. I am already aware of...

A complete working system in the box. Even if it was double or quadruple the size of a gamecube it could be portable. There are existing small form factor pc cases that will handle a couple of large drives. I am not so hung up on size as I am a turn key solution. We can do it with music so why...

So I dont really like my keyboard.

I have gone through many keyboards and have finally settled on the Saitek. I have had it for over a year and have never gotten tired of it.

I don't think heat would have to be an issue. Low performance hard drives that run cooler already exist and are put in Xboxes, iPods etc. A video iPod is totally sealed and is constantly accessing the HD.

With hard drive space so cheap I would think that someone would come up with a box that I could load all of my DVDs onto hard drives so i could just sit down and scroll through a menu and select what I want. Kind of like a MP3 player only with DVD quality video. My wife and I have bought many...

A good thing about AM2 appearing to be a letdown..

Pariah....you're no fun :) I love it when AMD competes and challenges Intel. When AMD is the big player I'll love it when Intel wins a few!

Ok so I hit my computer with my fist...

One time I punched a panelled wall in my house. Split all the sheetrock seems on the other side and broke my 3rd and 4th metacarple(?) and my wrist. :-( Had to learn to play FPS left handed! Don't punch stuff....I know I never will again!

Can someone explain the benefit of 100 fps in a game?

Hmmm. I think movies play at about 32 FPS? So a video card thet plays at 100+ FPS should be able to have all of the effects etc turned on and still be playable.

WHO IS "ROSEWILL"

I have bought a Rosewill MB and Video card. Been running them for a few months with no problems and they were really decently priced. I bought them because they have alot of 5 star ratings from users

How is the ATI 9600?

I used to love the 3DFX Voodoo line. I think they sued Nvidia for ripping off some of their ideas and won. Since then I have always stayed away from Nvidia. I like ATI's line of cards personally. It's a Ford/Chevy thing.......I like Chevys :)

I have the 9600XT. I like it . Played alot of UT2004 with it . Smooth at 1024 x 768 with most of the features set to high.

is 1Gig RAM really necessary?

For me, going to 1G helped alot in dealing with photos. Depends on what you use your PC for.

Who makes the best systems?

Building your own is best. After that i would go with Alienware or Voodoo. If you don't have the money I have been impressed with HPs or Compaq and I know their tech support has been superior to Dell lately. When you build your own you can get exactly what you want and you know exactly what...

whats wrong with Mac's?

OK...the point is that there is alot more software that you can't play or use on a Mac. So you have 2 out of every 20 titles. Is Halflife 2 coming next month on the Mac? What about Halo 2? Like I said, I love the hardware and the OS but......software is not there for me.

Dell and AMD's...

We bought my father-in -law a Dell. It has been a support nightmare. Neighbor ordered a Dell and his order came to the door with a CRT instead of the LCD he ordered. He had to send it back. I really like AMD chips. Without the AMD competition to Intel we would still be paying through the nose...
