You need a motherboard that has a bios that supports 48-bit Logical Block Addressing (LBA) . You may need to trade-in for a newer model to have this capability.

Random Lockup No Matter What I do

I've had to increase the size of the paging file in Windows virtual memory to eliminate crashes on the computers I've built. I did get error messages giving me a clue it was memory related.

K8N Neo4 Platinum and 716SA

I don't see that motherboard listed on Plextors Website as being compatible. I know someone who got a 712-SA to work on a K8N Neo2 Platinum by using the Microsoft driver on the SATA controller instead of the nVidea driver.

Purchasing a new HD

For an older model motherboard like the MSI K7N2 Delta2 FSR (nforce2), I'd go with the 1st gen. SATA drive. I would get the SATA-II drive w/ NCQ for the latest model motherboard. I would think they would be backwards compatible, but I have heard of some people having problems with NCQ on old...

Performance Problems

I think that power supply is rated at 16 amps on the 12v+ rail. You should use a power supply with at least 18 amps for a Athlon xp 3500+. The Geforce 6800 GT 256meg uses about 65 watts, more power drain. I have the same motherboard with a Athlon xp 4000+ and use a Antec Neo Power 480 watt...

Computer freezes up on most games and randomly restarts

Did your Sony VAIO RS420 come from Sony with the Leadtek 6600GT AGP card? Is that something that was upgraded? That is a small case, maybe heat could be a factor. I always like to spring for better fans. Around 20 decibles is quiet enough for me with increased airflow over the stock fans.

I think I have bad RAM.

Your computer uses the paging file no matter how much RAM you have. Windows by design will dump stuff from memory to the paging file that it thinks it doesn't need. I would try increasing the size of the paging file. I increased mine by a few hundred and Doom3 crashed nomore.

Repeating Beep (endless loop) -> Memory error. Check for improperly seated or missing memory. The memory voltage is probably at 2.6 volts in the bios. You may want to up that to 2.75 volts. I'd check with the memory maker for the correct voltage.

Internet Explorer 6 -- "view source" sometimes doesn't work

Some people use HTML programs to automate the web page they are creating. View source won't tell you very much with them. They are also be to hide the source code on purpose. If the page is made using simple HTML you will be able to see the code.
