Help me with OSX version of Powerpoint?!

I've never managed to get that view myself. I don't think it actually exists in the mac version.

I agree. The one button does suck, but that's why I plug in 3 button mice with scroll wheels into my macs when I use them for extended periods (well, my iBook anyway. I always have a 3 button mouse plugged into the iMac - note, it's the model before the mighty mouse came out - and the 1 button...

Botched associations on a Mac...

This problem is well known, and I call it "more than one version of MS Office on a Mac" problem. Microsoft actually recommends deleting the Test Drive before using another copy of Office. Unfortunately, you didn't know that so it didn't help. Deleting the preferences and the test drive...

Linux on a Mac

Like kamper said, you don't need to install Xcode to get all the developer stuff that comes with Linux. It's in OS X anyway. Xcode is just an IDE, and it's a nice one too. If you're happy to use vim, then don't worry about Xcode. A number of distros work on macs. There's Gentoo, Ubuntu...

Pet peeves with OS X

Yep, move it into the corner and drag the bottom right corner. But, OS X isn't Windows. There's absolutely no need to maximise windows in OS X.

No, with VB you'd do Linux <> Unix or NOT (Linux = Unix) :P Actually, Linux is a Unix clone, but like ReactOS is a Windows clone. It's not Unix based, it's a completely different OS that was copied from Unix, because Linus wanted a decent OS instead of Windows, that worked on an everyday PC...

Pet peeves with OS X

Even easier way to eject a cd that's stuck. Hold down the mouse button when you boot the computer (as soon as it turns on). OF is updated, via Software Update. Only Apple supplies it for macs.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. I read in the original post "try a unix flavour like Gentoo", or something like that. Gentoo is a linux distribution, not UNIX. Unix is stuff like Solaris, BSD, Mac OS X, etc. BTW, look at my sig and see what OSes I use :P

What do you guys like about the command line over a GUI?

If I want to get something done, and quickly (with the keyboard), I use the command line. I also use it for everything on my linux server which doesn't have a monitor connected.

I've used NT4 drivers before and they worked. No joke. It was an old Creative Ensoniq sound card :P

2kfire, you are right. The multiplier doubles as soon as anything starts requiring lots of power (pushing it to 1.6GHz). Ok, now my dad will be really annoyed, coz there's nothing wrong with the processor. lol

The Linuxator: you can run most of the OSS from Linux on OS X, but it's way harder on Windows. BTW, I like OSS, I use Linux heaps, but I think that going against anything proprietary is just plain stupid, especially with me being a Software Engineer that makes a living from selling software...

jpbelauskas: Didn't actually make any difference. That only changes the time before the disks, monitor, etc turn off. I wish there was a drop-down box that allowed CPU performance to be set... oh well. 2kfire: I'll try that and see what happens.

My dad's compaq is driving him crazy. It has a Sempron 2800+ which is supposed to have a clock speed of 1.6Ghz, but System Properties in Windows is saying it's 800Mhz (causing him to have problems installing some games that check the clock speed through Windows). I've gone into BIOS setup...

Like I said, it's ~/.profile. On linux systems it's ~/.bashrc, but OS X, being based on BSD uses ~/.profile. Try it. BTW, ~/.bashrc works in xterm in X11.

apple OS x86

Apparently OS X x86 10.4.2 can't be pirated in the same way as 10.4.1 was. It will probably be cracked though. As an aside, I've been using development macintels at work, and OS X is really quick on them (more so than Windows on the equivalent hardware, or OS X on a recent Power Mac G5).

Trouble copying from SCSI on Mac OS X

The reason it doesn't write to NTFS is so they don't screw up the journal. Microsoft hasn't published the journal format.
