***OFFICIAL*** Ryzen 5000 / Zen 3 Launch Thread REVIEWS BEGIN PAGE 39

I don't see Flight Sim 2020. X-Plane is also heavy on the CPU and the results in the Phoronix review look outstanding: https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=ryzen-5900-gaming&num=3

Question 'Ampere'/Next-gen gaming uarch speculation thread

Many variables at play here so I'll oversimplify for the sake of argument. I think it's safe to say that TSMC 7nm is superior to Samsung 8nm, nobody is disputing that. It just boils down to capacity and margins. Apple and AMD are paying top dollar for 7nm wafers, their tiny 100mm2 and smaller...

Question 'Ampere'/Next-gen gaming uarch speculation thread

It drives TSMC's success for sure. Charging ahead with a bleeding edge node is a lot easier when you know that Apple will pay top dollar for every wafer.

Question 'Ampere'/Next-gen gaming uarch speculation thread

When you have iPhone margins, you don't need to switch. Apple ships millions of units every year on TSMC's bleeding edge node and doesn't even blink.

Question 'Ampere'/Next-gen gaming uarch speculation thread

It will most likely help Samsung. When other vendors of large ASICs see the volume and margins Nvidia will be pushing with Ampere, they'll come knocking. Nobody wants to fight over TSMC's gaps if they can help it. Also, Samsung doesn't need Apple's SoC business to fund innovation. Their...

Discussion Comet Lake Intel's new Core i9-10900K runs at over 90C, even with liquid cooling TweakTown

I'm happy AMD is doing well but I don't understand all the hate about Intel's temperatures. If a 5.3 GHz CPU configured for top single threaded performance and memory latency crosses 90C on some other (likely synthetic workload) you have, it probably wasn't made for you. It's still a great value...

Discussion Quo vadis Apple Macs - Intel, AMD and/or ARM CPUs? ARM it is!

Apple's goal isn't necessarily to beat Tiger Lake, it's to avoid paying for it. Since they are moving forward, their custom processor seems to be good enough.

Discussion Quo vadis Apple Macs - Intel, AMD and/or ARM CPUs? ARM it is!

Fair point but it doesn't necessarily apply across the board. This is the same company that ordered a 128 MB L4 die for a 13" laptop and put 24 MB of L2/L3 on a phone. I'm excited to see what they can do with a 200-300 mm2 silicon budget and a >20W power budget.

Discussion Quo vadis Apple Macs - Intel, AMD and/or ARM CPUs? ARM it is!

I would think that providing better than gaming console-level integration will eventually lead to more performance. Apple can afford to dedicate silicon to its own use cases in a way that Intel can't.

Discussion Quo vadis Apple Macs - Intel, AMD and/or ARM CPUs? ARM it is!

Apple sells ~20M Macs per year but decreasing YoY. The upside would be in inreasing margins and sales. Quick Google search came up with a Core i7-1065G7 price of $426 before Apple discount. How much does a in-house chip allow them to cut cost and reach a broader market? Most of the R&D cost...

Discussion Quo vadis Apple Macs - Intel, AMD and/or ARM CPUs? ARM it is!

https://www.anandtech.com/show/15578/cloud-clash-amazon-graviton2-arm-against-intel-and-amd Neoverse N1 is keeping up with Cascade Lake pretty well and Apple's cores are wider. I think the "won't rival" comment has more to do with burst frequency and 3rd-party software optimization than IPC.

Who is making these decisions at Toyota?

the environmental impact of producing a prius, or any car for that matter, is much greater than how much the car pollutes during its lifetime. If we really cared for the planet, we would stop producing and buying new cars and drive the ones we already have into the ground. A new Prius owner...

Who is making these decisions at Toyota?

Looks there won't be an AWD version, rumors say that rising development costs prevented that too. The price hike doesn't really bother mean that much (I'm saving money now), but like you said, targeting 40 year olds is a problem. I'm afraid it will result in family car styling, soft handling...

Who is making these decisions at Toyota?

Sometimes I borrow my mom's 2000 Golf TDI when I have to drive far and I find it very amusing to floor it when a Prius is behind me and shoot a cloud of diesel smoke their way, while getting better mpg and power. Horsepower wars combined with stricter consumption standards can only lead to...

Who is making these decisions at Toyota?

I can't believe I allowed myself a bit of faith in Toyota to make a real car and not an appliance. I was already saving money every paycheck so I could pay for most of this car in cash. Now I think that money will probably go to a used 135i.

Have not played a PC game in 3 years - make a recommendation

If you never played past the first Half Life STOP READING NOW and BUY the Orange Box! You will get HL2, both episodes, TF2, and Portal. Portal is amazing. Best $30 you will ever spend, trust me on this. Dawn of War 2 is my favorite RTS ever, not to be missed. Most of the good of CoH but...

Getting the most out of my new HD

splitting a hard drive into many partitions hasn't benefited me over the years. It forces the heads to go from partition to partition very frequently, lowering performance and sometimes resulting in odd behavior (I/O-related stutter, freeze, at least in my case). Besides, HDDs get slower as...

Should I get the Intel X25-V 40GB SSD?

yea if I don't get it I will raise hell, they seem to be pretty aware of their feedback there. It should hold me over until I can afford the Intel 80 or something better comes out.

Should I get the Intel X25-V 40GB SSD?

you can reinstall it again and re-activate. you can't exactly just vlite it, it's more complicated now but if you go to the vlite forum there are guides on how to get it done. I don't fully understand it all yet but I'm reading and asking questions now so I'm ready when I order the drive...

Should I get the Intel X25-V 40GB SSD?

I am about to order this drive, it should be perfect for me. Reads are almost as fast as the 80/160s and I don't really care about writes. The kingston version is a bit cheaper but it's a hastle to get Intel's firmware and utilities to work. After I vlite windows 7 there should be plenty of...

    ATI + LCD @ 120hz causes jittering/distortion problem

dude disable that vsync, it's not needed, tearing is almost impossible to see at 120hz. It's one of the main reasons to use high refresh rates like 120hz, double buffering for vsync will kill your framerate if it drops below the refresh rate and triple buffering will add really bad input lag...

    ATI + LCD @ 120hz causes jittering/distortion problem

so basically ATI's support for 120hz is busted, good to know I just returned my Viewsonic vx2265wm and ordered a Samsung 2233rz and was just about to pull the trigger on a HD 5850 but now I think I'll stick with my 8800GT and wait for the GTX 285 prices to fall below the HD 5850.

    Ramdisk and ReadyBoost

If you are running Vista 32bit on a PC with 4gb of ram but without a 64bit CPU like my dad's laptop, Windows will only be able to use 3-3.5gb of your ram. So what I did was make a ramdisk for 1gb to use what Vista can't for a ReadyBoost drive, and I left 3gb for the OS. I know it sounds crazy...

    [Retired] The LCD Thread

Agreed. This monitor is for real and the 120hz alone (so long vsync, burn in hell) is good enough for the top of the list, way up there miles above the rest. Until the 120hz Viewsonic comes out this is the ONLY gaming worthy LCD on the market.

Who manages to force Refresh Rates in Vista ?

Good news StreeTz. You are only using 85hz however and that seems to be an "acceptable" refresh rate in Vista. When you want to use 1280x800@140hz or 1440x900@120hz like I do in XP you might run into problems. Can you try a refresh rate 100hz or higher and please let me know how it goes...
