Speeding up file transfer between Linux and Vista?

use xp or server 2k3 in place of vista, or wait for sp1 - I've burned days on this and these are the work arounds.

NX client connection problems

I tried NX and had issues all over the place - Then I found xrdp - works between linux & linux, windows & linux, and saves open sessions if you get cut off. Check sourceforge for it. Good app to setup and use.

Viewsonic vx2255 22" LCD w/ webcam

Recommend me a Linux distro

If you want to install a distro and use it immediately - Ubuntu. If you want to learn something along the way, build a system from source, and customize it from the ground up - Gentoo. If you want a command line only LAMP server that installs damn fast and works great - Ubuntu Server is slick...

Windows 64 bit edition? Good for gaming?

I have x64 installed on my game system and have had no issues. I would say it's as fast as the x32 version, and you'll need a benchmark utility to tell you otherwise. Printer drivers were the only issue I had. If you have a 64 bit chip why not use it? If you're running the x32 version...

x64 OS question

I don't believe there is any emulation. The CPU is capable of both 32 and 64 bit instruction sets, and the OS is comprised of 32 and 64 bit components. The CPU simply switches between modes when running the appropriate 32 or 64 bit code. I have found only one or two programs that have issues...

3dmark05 Scores. Why are they so low?

I ran 3DMark 05 with my old 6600GT OC BFG card and I was right around 3100. Your sfores are in line with the rest. I grabbed an x800 256mb card and juiced it a bit, now I'm around 5000 on 3dMark 05.

Ati control center won't open.

I had this same issue on an x64 platform. Windows update will install the new dot net 2.0 version - You will need to search the MS site and ALSO install version 1.1 to get the ATI software to open and work as expected... I would have thought that ATI might have checked this... Hmm...

Best 120MM 80 mm Fans

I've had great luck with the Vantec Stealth Fans - The 80, 92, and 120mm fans have all performed great. Quiet, good air flow, and lifetime warranty. If they die, I'll take them back to my friends business and get a new one. None have died though :) 100% satisfaction.

I would check the intel site for a new BIOS update - Your system should not take this long to boot or finish post - If you're running the latest BIOS already, call Intel. They'll work with you to fix it directly.

So my Matrox driver was being a freak and interlacing the display on my 2nd monitor and I decided to reload the driver. After I did so, I booted into XP x64 with the VGASAVE driver loaded. I can boot the system in VGA mode, and last known good also loads the VGA driver. But no matter what...

there's no way I'd swap out the memory you have now for faster memory. All you're talking about is latency, not bandwidth. the intel platforms seem to like the low latency stuff, and the AMD boxes that are 939 and 940 based don't seem to care. You may boost your 3D Mark scores by a few...
