Glass platers are also smoother than Aluminum Alloy ones. As indicated by the image on the page that Bob Smith provided. Very informative by the way :)

    Are MiniCoopers feminine?

A Cooper, especially the S, fall into the catogory of a moped (or fat chick). They can be fun to ride, but you don't want your friends to see you. :D :lips: :wine:

    Mounting an HDD Upside Down...

As said - should be fine. Personally, I like mounting the drives vertically (cable upwards) by making my own custom HDD rack.

What do you guys think of AMD stock right now?

Well, I have been trading AMD stock options for a few years now. Rode the calls from 18 to 35. Then turned the tables with some puts from 38 to 20. Made a killing :D If this tells you anything, I have a couple strikes set around $12, and a few more in the $9 range.

    UPS?

Your typical standby UPS does little to clean the power signal. They just protect from surges and act as a battery back-up if it drops below a certain level. Usually 98-102V. If "brown outs" are a problem I would suggest you spend some extra money and get a "True Online" UPS...

NF7-M Northbridge Chipset fan getting really loud

Very common problem. Many mobo makers use sleeve bearing fans on the NB because they are both cheap & quiet. Well, until they wear out of course. A quick solution is to lube the fan bearing with a bit of oil. Take the fan off & find the sticker on the center hub - peel that back, there...

    6800 Ultra to a ATI 1950Pro

Are you dead set on the 1950Pro? The reason I ask is because the 7800gs can be had for $160 (after $50 rebate) right now. About $60-$70 less than the 1950pro. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814143046 Yes the 1950Pro is faster, but by how much? A few percentage points...

How does Google perform a search

Google only catalogs about 4% of the internet. This is where your search results come from. All the major search engines combined catalog only about 10% of the internet. Therefore the other 90% of the internet remains "hidden". The rest can only be accessed by directly visiting the site, or...

Some good stuff posted. The one I contributed with the 1600 horse power 1970 GTO with stacked blowers is still my favorite. ;) Maybe because the guy lives not too far from here so I have seen the car in person a few times. That YouTube video was shot not too far from where I live actually.

EBAY - Warning; 3rd party access allowed!

Thank you for sharing that. None of which really surprises me. The way the TOS agreements are set up at Ebay you have to read through dozens of cross-linked pages to find any relevant info about this subject. Like I said a few pages back - there are 156 help topics listed for "3rd party access".

    Thermal emissivity of an object

I believe we can use heatsinks as a case study here. When talking heatsinks there is little thing called "Film Resistance". Any coatings, even anodizing, can have a detrimental effect on this since it is comprised of oxides & pigments which have a different thermal efficiency value than the base...

    Case ventilation

To expand on what rogue1979 said ..... if your case has good airflow, removing the side panel can actually raise temps because the warmed air is not being drawn away as efficiently. Now, if you want to remove the side panel & use a 120V table fan to cool the insides like I do, that is...

    Aluminum vs. Steel

Steel more resistant to vibrating? Perhaps because of extra weight, but otherwise I do not agree. If anything the softer aluminum will help inhibit transfer of vibrations. -edit Rubber screws & HDD mounts can be found here ~ http://www.xoxide.com/sharkoon-pc-vibration-dampening-kit.html ~...

    Oregon Scientific Waterproof MP3 Player

Thanks for the replies. Yes I have considered the plastic bag option. Does not work all that well, especially for long periods and wide temperature ranges. As example, I know someone who ruined their Nano that way. No immersion in water, just the humidity in the trapped air precipitating out...

So I dont really like my keyboard.

The Dell sounds interesting. You know of any pages where one can look into that? Darn right the model M can be loud. Doesn't realy bother me though. My PC is at the opposite end of the house so no worries about the woman yelling at me. Not for the keyboard clicking anyway - LOL Oh , you...

So I dont really like my keyboard.

Yes the model M is fairly loud. Likely not be good for your situation TBSN. They aren't called "clickys" for nothing. :) One reason many makers went to "quiet key" membrane boards is likely because of the noise, besides saving on production costs. Was probably quite loud in a busy office with...

So I dont really like my keyboard.

Well, I am not sure I understand the comparrison. Did you read that Hard forum post I linked above? Good explanation there, espcially the image which illustrates the non-linear pressure profile. VERY different than the linear profile you get from your typical membrane boards. Removing the...

So I dont really like my keyboard.

Very nice - thank you for that. I will have to read more about how they are designed. In case anyone is wondering why the 'model M' is such a highly coveted keyboard, and why they are thought to be so ergonomic, here is a post from another forum which spells this out very well IMO...

    Which SATA drives are quiet?

My Seagate 200gb are pretty quiet. Definitely more quiet than the 300gb WD in my other system. The Seagate buyout of Maxtor has me worried though. Afraid their (Seagate) quality will suffer.

So I dont really like my keyboard.

If you don't mind a little noise, you might consider an old IBM 'model M' keyboard. Arguably the most ergonomic keyboard ever made, for more than one reason. Plus they are built extremely sturdy. Many are still in in operation after over a decade of use. Try that with most modern keyboards...

EBAY - Warning; 3rd party access allowed!

EBAY - Warning; 3rd party access allowed!

Question for all ... When using an alternative checkout, which is what many of these 3rd party authorizations are all about, were you asked in any way if you grant concerned party access to your account in any way? A check box, agreement screen, or the like? This is a serious question...

Not sure what the others are all about, but have been told "Andale" is to count the hits on your auction. You know, very good chance all of us inadvertently agreed to this. Seems to me eBay had a big revision of their TOS agreement about 1.5 to 2 years ago, which we had to agree to for...

EBAY - Warning; 3rd party access allowed!

That is just the thing, these entities are given 3rd party access WITHOUT your knowledge. Now I do not profess to have any idea what this is all about. Best thing to do is to contact eBay and ask. Not as though eBay makes it easy for us to do so. Start by going to the "Security &...
