Internet on new computer is very slow

Hey, thanks again for all of the help I have gotten, it's much appreciated! I uninstalled COMODO and on this reboot so far so good. It's funky because when I did this yesterday it still lagged. I will see how it goes today before saying the issue is fixed, it's possible it will come back.

Update: it got laggy again shortly after installing my programs and using a few of them. All I have installed besides the basic drivers/Chrome is Comodo Firewall and Malwarebytes. The only other programs I have installed are poker sites and Foobar2000. I am getting the same kind of laggy...

Reinstalled windows, and indeed now I see 4 cpu cores in the Task manager. Will report back on if it fixed the issue or not, need to install a bunch of programs to really test it.

Tried removing both and still the same. I'm sitting idle with 1% cpu usage and I just drag the task manager around and it spikes to 51%. - Updated my nvidia drivers to the latest version.

The CPU usage on idle did go down but the window lag/system clunkiness is still there. - Uninstalled COMODO - no change - Lowered resolution and bit depth to 16 - no change - Uninstalled Antikeylogger - no change - Rebooted in Safe mode and even there the windows lag around the screen Starting...

Checked my connections, reset bios to Optimized defaults, uninstalled IRST and still the system is slow. I'm close to just reformatting and being done with it but I'd rather not do that. Any other ideas? :)

I managed to get the processes down to 26 and still when I reboot the task manager lags around and my cpu goes up to 30% usage, with basically nothing running. Next I'll go in the bios and reset everything. edit: still no improvement

OK I disabled all the non-MS services and all non-essential startup programs (The antikeylogger I cannot disable it keeps enabling itself - I've had it installed for months w/o issues). I opened Chrome and just dragged the task manager around the screen and it was laggy.

Here you go. This is a pretty typical set of programs i have opened most of the day. There's still a perceptible amount of lag when I just rebooted with no new programs opened. I just ran CCleaner as well.

My original P133 purchase receipt from 1996!

I took a student loan for my first computer.. school was basically an excuse to get one so I could play Diablo 1 and such. ;) It was a $3k Pentium 3 450mhz system with a voodoo 3 card (!!!!). I got it the week the P3 came out.

Who's struggling to justify upgrading their CPU?

Ok thansk for the ideas. First I increased the voltage on the ram (+0.025 first) since it's the easiest one to do. I rebooted, opened every program i have and played a game at the same time. No lag at all. I'll test it out again tomorrow and if that doesn't work I'll remove some ram sticks...

wut? :P I guess you mean the event viewer. What info can i get from there in regards to the lag? I was staring at the ressource monitor when the lag happened but nothing jumped out.

Hmm well thanks for the info. I did look around for similar issues and a lot of people have had them, with SSDs in general and not just intel. Some say the jagged lines are because of the data on the drive and that with an OS drive it will usually happen. No one talks about the lag I have had...

I need help enabling AHCI

When I enabled AHCI on windows 7 I put in a different registry input before rebooting into AHCI mode. Just google it it should be easy to find. If you don't do it you won't be able to boot anymore.

alright so it's doing it again.. i have around 6-7 programs opened. 25% Cpu usage, 4gb of memory free. I have the ressource monitor on and nothing stands out. Is there anything i can check now to see what the issue is with? Everything is slower than normal, even popping out a window is laggy.

Checked them out and the hard drive is set to Never Sleep. Is that all? CPU: Q9450 @ stock speeds I used the same OS from OCZ -> Intel, same hardware as well.

You're always going to wait for the next big thing.. I'd just buy the best value/performance drive out today. You'll want/need to upgrade in the next tech cycle anyway.

I didn't OC. I will try a diff. cable and SATA port before RMAing.. It would suck if I had to since the reason i switched to Intel is bc my OCZ drive failed after 12-18 months.

just a FYI.. it turned out to be the hard drive that was corrupted. After running some tests we figured it out. Looks like an OCZ SSD doesn't last that long. I bought an intel SSD to replace it.
