V5 5500 and W2k

With an overclocked Duron 600 (running around 950MHz) and the 1.04 5500 drivers, I'm getting on average about 45fps in Unreal Tourney at 1600x1200x16. Undying is also virtually smooth at 1600x1200. Glide games, of course, but they are doing fine on my W2K system.

Amd Duron 600@900 unstable

I've been running a 600@933 (7x133) with a temp of around 40c, using the FOP32-1 with Artic Silver. Voltage is at 1.8. You need to get that temp down in the mid-30s at the 600 default setting before attempting to overclock, I think. Your issue might be be a combination of the temp, and once...

kt7a-raid problem?

You might check the CPU to see if it was damaged or not when putting the fan back on. T-Bird cores are rather fragile and even the slightest chip off the edge of the core is CPU death.

applying arctic silver? to both the die and the hsf? or only the hsf?

I applied it to the heatsink, since I didn't want the silver to contact any of the bridges on the CPU (heard this might cause some problems). I don't think it matters whether it is applied to one or the other, but a heatsink might be a tad porous and I'd rather make sure the heatsink is coated...

Why dont you all like the FOP-38

I accidentally damaged my 1GHz T-Bird trying to install the FOP32-1 while the m/b was still in the case. The force needed to push the pin down with one screwdriver, while using another to flip the lock into place, really requires that you take the m/b out first since most cases makes this sort...

Thanks! Yeah, I did use the two screwdriver technique, but the board was still in the case, and movement was awkward. I will need to buy a new CPU anyway, so to protect that investment, I'll just remove the motherboard and install it that way. I want to be VERY careful when I do it the next...

Thanks for the feedback! I hesitated using a petroleum based product, since I always felt they left residues. Rubbing alcohol doesn't work well on the zinc based stuff. I'll try the nail polish remover. Since I'm looking to start over with a fresh paste, I don't think I need to worry about...

BTW, I disabled ACPI in Windows 2000 after the installation. A few driver reinstalls later, and its done. I benched before ACPI (don't recall the numbers), but the differences were quite remarkable as I recall. I'm glad I did it.
