500GB + External drive vs 1TB Xbox One?

Interesting. Isn't USB cpu dependent? If so, wouldn't an external USB drive consume more resources? I found a great deal, so I ended up buying a 1TB Forza bundle.

I've been reading up on JBOD and it is something I am interested in. I would like my (2) 4TB drives to be (1) 8TB drive. Sounds like JBOD will do this. Question is, what happens if (1) drive dies, is all data lost or just the data on the drive that died?

LOL, thanks for the info. With the reading I've been doing, sounds like RAID is "the thing" to use when getting a NAS. I will continue to do what I do now, backup critical data to multiple drives / cloud manually or using a sync program.

I do a lot of par fixes and unrars of large files. Will having an SSD increase the speed of these unrars when unraring to the same disk? Will this degrade the drive faster over time?

Our IT dept. Even though they are part of the corporation, they bill us as a customer. We pay them for the support we get, so the price varies depending on what we use/need.

THanks for the replies, I understand 100% about overhead and that the drives are enterprise rated (higher RPM, etc). So I take it you think the $15k figure doesn't seem so far fetched? BTW, this $15k is the initial cost, doesn't include cost if things go down, issues, etc down the road...

The budget guide? As far as waiting for Llano, when is that chip due out? I try not to get stuck in a rut of waiting for new tech because there will always be something better coming out, but sometimes its best to wait a little longer to get the latest.

I want to spend around $300. I plan on using the same case, optical drive, and other common parts. The PSU in his current computer is a 400W Antec but its the old ATX standard so Im not sure how picky newer mobos are about that.

Power adapter interchangeable? Same specs, different physical size
