Should I go widescreen?

Fanless vid card that covers the ram?

By covers I mean actually touching the ram. Manufacturers seem to have trouble grasping this concept and produce fanless vid cards which only cool the GPU and leave the ram to fend for itself. I'm willing to pay a premium for the silence and the ram cooling, I just don't know if such a thing...

Elusive fan noise

I have replaced all my case fans with 5 Pabst 8421NGL 80mm. They are very quite fans but when the computer is on, I hear a high buzzing noise. My cpu fan is a Nexus D12SL-12 120mm. My psu has only one 80mm (not pabst) but it has a rheostat which I keep at the lowest rpm. My vid card is...

SI-97 fanless on 600mhz cpu?

That's great info thanks. If I recall, the XP2000 was a Palomino core and those ran pretty toasty. I'm surprised you were able to run a fanless hs with that cpu, good case ventilation or not.

ok I appreciate the tips. I was hoping that the low clock on the Duron would let me go fanless easily with a 90mm thermalright. I may consider paying more for one designed to go fanless just for the peace of mind. Thanks.

Good passive/fanless cooler for GF5500

Yep, that would probably be better. Maybe I'll just try a home made solution like disconnect the fan on the 5500 and mount a quieter 80mm there.

only 60Hz after installing Radeon 9800 pro

I have windows xp pro. I think the powerstrip will work for the time being. I'm going to replace the card with a GeForce though. The card does look nice but too many driver issues, which are compounded for me because I need the wide screen res also. Thanks to everyone for the help.

and I only get 60hz in games even though 85hz is "locked" in Powerstrip. I did have that problem with my GeForce card also though, but this is the first time I've forced and locked it with Powerstrip. *sigh* If anyone knows a way to lock the refresh for all apps please post.

I used Driver Cleaner Pro to get rid of all video drivers, Nvidia and ATI, then re-installed; still same problem.

Raedon 9800 Pro AGP owners - question please

It's a Sony GDM-FW900. It is an unusual res and I can't find it listed as a supported resolution for that card so I thought a 9800 owner might go to desktop settings and have a look.

Can two people use the same PC simultaneously?

Looks like the KVM thing doesn't allow for ppl to use the pc at the same time. And the Jetway twin would mean a whole new machine. I gues it's not possible with existing hardware. I wanted to make it work without buying a new machine. Thanks for the info.

New Memorex DVD burner not seen in Windows

The drive had only one jumper set to master. We removed the F drive (storage hard drive that was slave to the burner) and it shows up consistently in Windows now.

I do build my own but it wouldn't really be practical for me to build for him and be tech support right now. Maybe I will reconsider the integrated graphics if the MB has pci-e for later upgrade. Thanks to all for the input.
