Update: If a Window is snapped then minimized, it'll move and shrink a little when the screen comes back on, but not much. If it's not snapped to either side of the screen, and minimized, when the screen comes back on it'll be tiny (as per the screenshot in my post above). Likewise any windows...

Hmm this is weird, I went to go try that today (disable GPU acceleration) and I see it's fixed already. It was a new install a Windows 8, and it did do numerous updates today. Random though.

Sorry, I can play them no problem. The MKV files were just what I happened to be copying when I first found the problem. But I have the same i/o device error copying any file, for example .txt to certain folders from a different drive.

I haven't had another one to compare it to, but it (a Netgear Stora) copies at a steady 25mb/s instead of 9mb/s now, which makes me happy. Although naturally I'd love it to be faster still.

USB 3 hard drives are already in stores, and if you've ever tried to copy a significant amount of data to an external hard drive (or USB stick for that matter) you'll probably remember it's a slow experience. But SATA 6, I believe that's more to do with SSD drives than physical hard drives...
