i remember seeing in all of the "where to find an 8800GT" threads people writing about the prices are so high and "just wait when then GTS comes out the prices will drop and that will probably be a so much better card bla bla bla" -- just wait... so now we've waited... and guess what ppl are...

i have a very similar problem.. my 3dmark went from 4k to 8k after i got my GT in... but i am maxed out on the CPU now... hopefully i will be fixing that this week... :)
first of all.. the card is designed to run over 100C... however I dont think i'd feel to great about doing that...most ppl with the stock cooler run about 85C @ load...

anyone know if there is an advantage to "linking the clocks" (there is an option in rivatuner)between the GPU and the shader on the GT?? Do you think there is a performance penalty for unlinking them? Kinda like the penatly for not running ram 1:1 ?? anyone?
geez must be nice... i just tried 783 with my stock cooler.. gets up to about 83C max... but started crashing out of COD4... 777 seems stable so far... i only have the shaders up to 1833 but i havent really tried to work them higher yet... i cant imagine 49C @ load... im looking at 60C idle...
here is the bizzare thing... i had to disable driver checking to install it, but artifact checking doesnt work... if i reboot with driver checking on (after its been installed) the app warns me about the kernal mode driver not being loaded but the artifact checking actually works! its crazy...
this is a really odd question... what possible reason do you have for needing >8GB of RAM where you dont want the ram to be on a server platform? If your running a server its best to run on server hardware...
I've found SLI to really be worth it. In theory it sounds like an interesting idea but i've never found the price to performance increase to be worth it. plus NVidia has been having some struggles getting SLI to work all that well with the current drivers...

what specifically have you had problems with regarding the PVR tuners? I have the PVR-500MCE and it seems to run perfectly on Vista x64... i haven't noticed even one issue. The bigger problem is playback in x64.. only software decoding seems to work in x64...
an eVGA tech over on their site said the GT is able to run at temps over 100C. Personally I dont think I'd run it over 100 though... but i think anything under that is fine.
I currently have a raid 0 for my drives and I am thinking about upgrading my system. Right now I am running on a NForce4 board. If i get a new MB can I plug the drives in and configure them for raid and still have them work? or is there something specific that the controller does that will...
thats a very good link... very informative. I'd still be curious to see a head-to-head with both cards maxed out to see if the higher clock on the GT can compensate for less mem... maybe not.
also, i think everybody and their mom is just gonna wait anyway until the G92 GTS comes out in a few...
i agree with Jag.. shouldnt be any hotter than the GT... but i dont know much about GDDR4 though and if it runs hotter or cooler or what.. but the dual slot cooler will help compensate im sure!

Which card is better is answered by one question: which one performs faster at its MAX... PERIOD. take both cards and ramp them up as high as they go and the one that has better numbers wins... you can argue ROPS FLOPS MOPS TOPS all you want...but in the end the one that can overclock higher...
yeah after i got riva tuner installed and working right (so that the fan kicks up as temps rise) the temps stayed a lot lower... i think it was 68 C after playing COD4 for about 8 hours. But i did hear the fan kicking up to audible levels a few times... :)
how did you get ATITool to work in Vx64? I can run the app but it keeps telling me my card isn't selected for output or something lame... :( RivaTuner works fine but ATITool gays out.
yeah turns out there is a bug in the NVIdia drivers that causes the fan to not spin up under load... sounds like you have to use RivaTuner in order to get your fans to spin properly...
so i just got done playing about 3 hours of COD4 and i decided to check my GPU temp after i got done... 81C!! wow that seems HOT... its an 8800 ssc and im running it at default speeds....
i dunno if thats normal but 180 degrees seems blazing! oddly enough though my case temp only climbed...
ok i see that you can disable driver signing during boot which will only last until the next reboot... this should be better than disabling it all together... i can just boot into disabled mode when i want to work the card over...
i think some people can "get it to run" by doing all sort of system tweaks (primarily because they didnt sign their driver and x64 doesnt let unisigned drivers on the system period -- this is a good thing). But i dont really feel like doing a bunch of hacks just to stress a card... i figured...
Hello... i see a lot of people seem to think ATI Tool is a good way to stress test a GPU to see if the settings are stable... but this app doesnt seem to run on 64bit vista... what is the alternative?
