    6 reason soccer sucks.

I skipped none of your commentary. In fact I have actually re-read your posts in this thread a few times. Your arguments against a referee challenge rule are: It could be abused. It doesn't address all situations. It doesn't fit with the rhythm, timing and traditions of the game. I am too...

    6 reason soccer sucks.

Who insulted who here? Go back and read your own posts...which one of us is calling people idiots, stupid and making other personal attacks? You have no idea how long I have followed soccer, but it's a hell of a lot longer than the last two weeks - more like 15 years (1994 World Cup in US...

I like OMGWTF BBQ Sauce! Seriously, though, Sweet Baby Ray is my favorite ready-made sauce.

I'm cooking tonight... YOU can help me improve this!

Really just needs a vegetable....roasted carrots with dill seems to go naturally with salmon (you could throw a little dill on the salmon) or grilled asparagus.

    6 reason soccer sucks.

That's the problem. Everyone closely involved with the sport is like you with their head buried so far in the game they cannot step back and take a good honest look, dismissing everyone else because they did not play for some arbitrarily defined period of time and then referee on top of...

    6 reason soccer sucks.

False. Period. In the time it took to get the ball out of the Slovenian goal back to the point of infraction for the free kick, play was stopped, the momentum was broken, and a review could have been conducted. You can't stop the game to conduct instant replay, quite simply because the old...

    6 reason soccer sucks.

Come on, does anyone really think our opinion on ATOT has any impact? We're just spitballing here. All centered basically around "No one is willing to consider improving the quality of the sport." There is nothing that can't be legislated appropriately if participants are willing to...

    6 reason soccer sucks.

Who said it was a point of contention? There were other officiating f-ups than the England/Germany game. It's not just enough to be able to know whether the ball has crossed the goal line - it is also necessary to be able to challenge the referee if he mistakenly overturns a goal (e.g. offside).

It's legal, you just have to sign a waiver.

Do Kix taste sweet to anybody else?

It does not say anywhere "no added sugar" and the ingredients corroborate the addition of sugar.

Some teas are better with cream and/or sweetener. If you are not sure which, perhaps you should broaden your tea-drinking horizons.

    Traffic Cameras/Car Registration

In NJ and PA, technically you are required to stop at the line, then pull forward far enough to see and stop again. Occasionally a cop who is in a particularly foul mood will tag someone for this.

    official veggie gardener's thread

Interesting...I was not aware of this. Fortunately it's pretty far from any tomatoes and its nearest neighbors are cucumber and onions which after a bit of googling, it appears they shouldn't have too much trouble with fennel growing nearby. What a weird phenomenon! I never considered...

    official veggie gardener's thread

On a whim I threw some fennel and brussels sprout seeds down in mid-june and to my shock, there is a fennel stalk coming up! At this point the cucumber has overgrown the area where the brussels sprouts would have been....too bad, as I was excited about being able to just cut brussels sprouts...

Did the price of organic apples skyrocket for anyone else?

In the US, "Organic" is a federally-regulated titled that you can't just slap willy-nilly on everything, so you have some assurance that CERTAIN chems and pesticides have not been used (but as we mentioned earlier in this thread there are some chems that are allowed under Organic certification...

do you save the bacon grease when you make bacon?

It would be silly not to keep it. It's also a key ingredient in certain dishes like corn bread and german potato salad. Pro tip for you CSA members: If you don't feel like braising greens for a couple of hours (or maybe you just got careless and ran out of ham hocks), you can pretty much boil...

    Tough Decisions

    1. That's how these child seats work - you put the kid in the seat and then the seat in the car. It's also worth noting that the bulk of rear-facing child seats may barely even work. If I put my child seat behind the passenger seat in my Fit, I've got to pull the front seat so far forward it's...

    Tough Decisions

It's pretty much just the opposite - kids that climb in and out of the car on their own are fairly easy to get in and out of the car. Getting a bulky child seat in and out with a kid in it is when it's a pain in the ass.

    Tough Decisions

What's the outlook on having kids? Honestly even having one coupe is a pain in the ass with kids. If I leave the coupe with the wife and drive the 5-door to work, my wife (who tries to get out of the house at least a little bit every day) has to deal with the acrobatics of lifting 30+lbs...

Am I the only one who prefers my swiss cake rolls frozen?

False. I have had real pastries. I still eat Little Debbie (or equivalent actually) (she's over 18, honest). I have had "real Mexican food" and I still eat Taco Bell. Sometimes I want junk. Sometimes junk tastes good. It never occured to me to freeze a swiss cake roll, but I will...

    6 reason soccer sucks.

I think never, so I guess anything would be sooner than I think...but unless they make it much harder to get a red card (like 5 yellow cards) or they greatly reduce the power of a red card (e.g. 5-minute power play and then the sent-off player can be replaced) OR they institute a "no blood, no...

Did the price of organic apples skyrocket for anyone else?

"Safer" however needs a clarification. No safer for the consumer is one thing. Safer for the grower/farm worker would be exposed in much greater concentration....that's a different story.
  34. J

Did the price of organic apples skyrocket for anyone else?

Apples are not in season in the US. Which means they are probably being shipped from somewhere in the southern hemisphere. Which kinda defeats a lot of the potential environmental benefits of buying organic... Not buying apples right now is the best decision. Go to the farmers market and...

Finally replacing the DD. 5-door or 4-door?

You're either a hatch guy or you're not. Give me a choice between a hatch and a coupe/sedan variant of the same car, I'll pretty much pick the hatch everytime. Except maybe the Accord Crosstour, but that's a given.

The Anti-Vaccination Dimwits Strike Again: Whooping Cough Epidemic in California

I agree with this. But for whooping cough, the "lack of vaccinations" is not just refusal to vaccinate children, it's people who are no longer immune and have no idea. When was your last tetanus shot? If it was more than about 5 years ago, you're part of the problem!

    Stock pot size question

Sounds pretty good. You're probably better off one size bigger than you think you need (it's always easier to manage when it isn't filled to the brim) so maybe even consider 14qt. You can often find diameter measurements to help compare to your burner size.
  38. J

    Stock pot size question

There's no standard b/c it's all based on how much you want to cook at a time. Are you cooking dinner for 2? 4? 6 people? Cooking a ton at once to freeze?

    Stock pot size question

Home cookware is made to work on home stovetop burners, and as you increase in size, the width does not need ot increase that much. I have a 20qt stock pot that fits just fine on my large burner. Of course it will also take a looooong time to come to a boil. It's more useful as a bucket for...
