Is AMD going to be in trouble 2006?

Marketing would hurt them more than help them at this point. They can barely produce enough processors to satisfy the (unmarketed) demand. Now what happens when they advertise? Demand goes up by quite a bit... that'll lead to pretty high prices because they can't make enough processors to...

Hyperthreading - is it a big deal?

I've got an idea. Wait until dual core athlon 64's are out, and then it won't matter because you'll have real SMP anyway.

Anyone's logitech mouse goes bonkers?

This type of thing typically happens if you pick your mouse up (well, it really happens when you put it down) and/or have a patterned, partially reflective mousing surface.

OC 2500 Barton or 2500 Mobile?

I wouldn't spend the dollars on an upgrade that's probably only going to get you a 300 mhz increase. That's not even noticable to most people. Save up for an a64 or something.

BH-5 Voltage

BH-5 chips are rated for 3.6v. TCCD can't get all that much higher than bh-5... mine can do 262 mhz with enough voltage, and keep the 2-2-2 timings. I'm also pretty sure that if the timings were loosened, the memory would scale even higher. Most TCCD, from what I've seen/read, tops out around...

amd xp-m 2400 + vs xp 3000+

Why not? All you'd absolutely need to upgrade when you go over to another socket (say, 939) is the waterblock. It's not like getting a different motherboard means your radiator needs upgraded.

simple overclock for Barton 2500+

Yes, running two 512mb dimms on an nforce2 will make overclocking to anything past, say, 220 fsb a MAJOR pain in the ass... this is assuming they are double sided dimms, which most are. The nforce2 doesn't cope very well with double sided dimms at high speeds, because it's basically like having...

It should be 33mhz... anyway, I imagine you wouldn't get any problems running it at something like 45 mhz (that'd probably show up as 22.5 for you, since it seems to be dividing by 2), but you might. Just give it a shot... chances are the worst that could happen is you will have to reboot.

Arguing 'FOR' SLI.

It's not worthwhile RIGHT NOW, but if you buy an SLI mobo now and a 6600gt, and then in a year and a half when your games don't run at 1280x960 at high settings anymore, you spend probably $100 on another 6600gt and hey! twice the performance. The value of SLI, IMO, is in the upgrade paths it...

Actually, it's E=MC^2/(sqrt(1-(v^2/c^2)), and that square root in the bottom is why it takes infinite energy to go the speed of light... as v approaches c, you end up with e=mc^2/sqrt(0), which boils down to e=infinity... But whatever, we knew what you meant ;)

Haha, what? A $175 athlon64 3000 with some corsair valueram will easily overclock to 2.4ghz (3800+) with stock cooling... if you bought an actual $630 3800+ and some corsair valueram (same memory) it'd cost you $455 more... how is that not saving money?

2500 Barton overclocking problems

No. Dual channel helps about none on athlon xp's. 128 bit memory is cool and all, but it's pretty useless if it's running 1:1 with a 64 bit bus.

2500+ oc'd to 3200+ with 6600GT

Rofl, games are perfectly playable with 30 fps as long as it's relatively constant. You should turn on vsync if it's that big a deal. My graphics card (see sig) is not the bottleneck at 1280x1024/4xAA/8xAF. I get the exact same fps as at 1024x768 with no AA/AF.

Question about the XP-M 2400 and multipliers/FSB

The only thing limiting you to <12.5x is your mobo, which you could bypass by cutting some bridges. I've set mine as high as 22 before, for kicks and giggles (22x100 =o) It'll probably default to 100x6, but that doesn't matter. Put it to 200x11 @ 1.65v right off the bat. That should run no...

Is this an Athlon 1800 xp

Why don't you just look at the "CPU" section of cpuz? It will say plain as day what processor you have. I'm pretty sure it is an 1800+ though, because it's a palomino core. That means it's got to be an xp, which wasn't ever made at 1150mhz.

Hmm... My athlon xp hits 35c full load on a hot day (at 250x10, where I leave it for daily use). That's just barely more than "half" as hot as any of your prescotts. Yes, prescotts run too hot.

a64 90nm 3000+ asus a8v (2.0) lockups?

I wouldn't rely on CS:S as any sort of stability test. It's my belief that it isn't very ...well written... if you will. It's crashed on every computer I've played it on, several of which are rock solid stable and at stock settings.

PSU for overclocking

That sort of falls into "taking care," doesn't it? I've got an antec trueblue 480, it's pretty good. Voltages are right where they should be with a barton @ 2.5, 6800gt @ 420/1.2, 2 hard drives, and a cd burner.

What is the best motherboard for a mobile 2500?

If you like RMA's, I'd get the DFI Lanparty/Infinity Ultra B. It's good at getting crazy high fsbs, it comes with nice stuff, and it's got the best voltage controls. Of course, only one in two or three actually works. Otherwise, I'd get the AN7. It's good at (not so crazy) high fsbs, doesn't...

BH-5 holding me back?

I've been runnin my bh-5 at 3.3v for a year now, no problems yet... BH-5 likes voltage. With 2.9v my bh-5 maxes out around 215 or so.
