Windows XP x64 is slow.

Ok now we're getting somewhere. The drive was set to PIO in BIOS. It had 4 settings: -PIO 0 -Max PIO -Ultra DMA 0 -Max UDMA I changed it to Max UDMA, and drive access is back up to 60 mb/s. Before, it was 3 mb/s. However, the system still seems somewhat slow compared to others...

Well, enabling/disabling hyperthreading doesn't seem to be making a difference. It's more like HDD access is slow. It takes much longer to boot up than equivalent workstations around here. Anytime the hard drive gets used, it's slow. Say I launch a program. It takes much longer to start...

Thanks. I sent them the report. I have verified that this is indeed a problem with IE7, as I've removed it from my machine and Gmail Notifier works again. I wonder how many other Google programs are tied into IE's functionality...

Hard drive cloning woes

Well, my hunch was right. Apparently, Go-Back encodes and encrypts the drive using a Type 44 format and I haven't been able to find a partitioning utility that'll work with that format. Nothing wrong with HDClone except for the fact that it's slow. But hey, it's free. Go-Back has it's own...

Something I just thought of. The original drive has Norton Systemworks installed on it (I know, I know). That package includes Go-Back. Would that mess with the partition utilities?

I think I've fixed the problem. Apparently, HDClone made some kind of funky partition on the new drive that wasn't showing up in any of my partition utilities. I used WDDIAG's utility to write zeros to the drive, which (hopefully) solved the problem. Restoring the image as we speak. *Fingers...

Logic tells me no, unless you have a different CD key for the new system. I think Dell's CD keys were meant for that one system alone.

There's not enough bandwidth between your home and your school to support all that information trying to be transferred. It might work if you were on the same subnet and wired, but even then I'm doubtful.

Router Login

If you still can't get in, hold down the reset button on the router for like 10 secs, which will reset it. Then your login should be "admin" (no quotes) with a blank password.
