Why people buy decent SLRs and crappy lenses

Let's see, my K20D has ~ 44,000 pixels/mm2, my Panasonic Lumix FZ50 (for example, I'm sure it can be topped) has about 265,000 / mm2 (had to double check the math on that, damn those sensors are small). The lens on the Lumix is decent, but probably a fair step shy of a basic SLR 'kit' lens, yet...

Anyone else considering upgrading from q6600?

Anything out there yet indicating power? Plenty of tests showing 9300 OC-Loaded power consumption being well below 6600, but always with the caveat that it has less cache. I tend to run jobs that load-up the computer for long periods of time, and if the 9450 ends-up burning 50W less power then...

What is your VID on coretemp on Q6600 G0 stepping only

I have 1.225 and can also run stable (24hr Prime95) 333x9 at that voltage. Haven't got around to trying anything higher yet, that's sufficient to make me feel good about getting the $200 Q6600 instead of waiting for a $350+ Q9450.

I wonder how this will affect benchmarking. It seems like the drivers would probably cap frame rates and use the freed resources to improve physics detail. So faster cards may have similar frame rates but better physics calculations - so how will that be measured? We could have adaptive image...

Best Wii games for workouts (besides the sports one that comes w/ the wii of course)?

Perhaps it will move nVidia to enable double-precision fp on their consumer cards, and CUDA will become useful without having to buy those RMALMP (ream me a little more, please) Teslas.

Will this 500W power supply power the 512mb 8800gts?

Most benchmarks of single-card GTS-512 systems maxed loaded total system power at less than 300W. The card itself seems to draw about 160W± loaded.

Even if the graphics drivers only use the memory footprint of one card, won't the memory from all 4 cards map over the system memory when the system boots? Would it be impossible to boot a 32-bit OS on this system?

Do you use Vsync?

I wasn't looking for higher frame rates, I was wondering more about being able to more directly accommodate frame rates dropping below 60 (or whatever) fps. If your at a point where your chugging out 54 fps, wouldn't it be better if the monitor displayed each entire frame as it was finished...

Sync is just a hold-over requirement for CRT's where the internal oscillators need to keep a steady hum. LCD can update it's image pretty-much whenever (certainly with upper and lower limits, but over a relatively broad range). Why haven't the graphics-card and display manufacturers got together...

Depends on if there are more people (data) than the existing cars (memory) can contain and how crowded the highway (data fetching) is. Expanding to a 12-lane freeway from Cat Creek, Montana to Musselshell , while making for a titillating earmark, wouldn't really make that commute any faster.

which newer motherboards have the PCI-E 2.0 standard?

Can two power supplies power the same videocard?

If you want to use switching power supplies in parallel, they need to be designed for that purpose, generally with diodes to prevent one supply with a slightly lower voltage from directly drawing power from the higher-voltage supply, and also to prevent some ugly problems at startup or in case...

Depending on where the temperature sensor for fan control is, could be poor contact of HSF to GPU (which is a type of faulty card, but one you can try to fix yourself with little risk).
