    Likely. The water cooling I have works great, its just the fan speed I find annoying. I look for a completely silent or as close to that in a gaming computer.

    Just to wrap up this issue, the real problem was I was using and older version of ATTO and when I used the current 4.01, the drive performance was at 95% of rated performance. Lesson learned.

    I think you made the right call. CrystalDisk Mark reports performance at 6928 read and 5190 write. The drive is rated 7000 read and 5000 write in an PCIe 4.0 board. Looks like its running as advertised and the problem is with ATTO. Many, many thanks for helping sort this out. Lou

    So I put the 2x128Vertex3 back in with no changes. ATTo best results jump to: Write 994 ( vs 774 on Vertex4 ) Read 973 ( vs 560 to 611 on Vertex 4 ) Wow - what a difference.

    Never thought it might be the X79 board - these 2 Vertex4 drives replaced 2 Vertex3 drives. Let me try those in raid. I know these performed super in my last motherboard. I also have a 3.0 video card in the first slot ( HD7970 ) with no problems.

    Just got an LG VX-8300. Want to use it as an mp3 player.

    I have the VX8300 with Verizon. You can copy MP3's to the sd and the phone will work with them. They have to be in the proper directory and the length of the filename has some limitations. You may want to check at HowardForums for more info. Lou
