Laptop - Dual Monitors :: External Monitor + TV Monitor?

Ok so I'm going to be buying a new laptop soon, and what I want to do is this: Have a dual monitor setup, but one of the monitors just to be a small TV so I can choose to watch CNN or whatnot on it (dont want to have to stream it online) if I want. So the question is what all do I need to...

Making Backups of My DVD's > How To?

Im going on a long trip soon, and want to bring some of my movies, but I do not want to bring the originals for the same reason I use my iPod in my car instead of bringing the real thing: I dont want them stolen or damaged while I'm out. Neither my Nero software nor Alcohol 120% will copy...

    Confused about brands...!!

The NEC 3500A (or 3520A I think the new one is) CD/DVD burner is very quiet and works great. Just make sure to get TDK or TY brand disks if you want to burn at the full 48X. Its around $60 on www.newegg.com. Then just get yourself a regular dvd/cd reader so you can make duplicates straight...

    Confused about brands...!!

Yes. All Antec PSU's 300watts and above have SATA connectors now. If you get a different brand, and for some reason it doesnt have them, they are $3 on most online stores.

    Confused about brands...!!

Stop referring to yourself in the 3rd person. Especially since your name directs one to an appendige. As far as my recommendations: Seagate for HDD's NEC/Pioneer for Burners. Just a regular CD/DVD reader, anything will do for the most part. Asus, pioneer, nec, samsung ect.

    Thermaltake Tsunami cases... any good?

I like mine alot. I don't have the see through panel though, because I think they all look like ass :D I like mine streamlined and solid. The only thing I'd change if I could, would be to make another version that is bigger. But thats because I put alot of s**t in my cases.

    Old hardware

Put it all on display in a museum :D Just kidding....... Not much really. You can allways use a slower comp for "testing" out other OS's like linux ect if you wish. That would be the best thing. Loading all that crap like zone alarm ect is just going to bog down the system to unusable...

    Why have multiple hard drives?

It depends on how much space you need really, or what you do with your computer. The "so if you need to reformat" argument, however, isn't a reason. You can just partition your single drive and do that just fine. My work comp has 3 harddrives. The first is for the OS, with a 2nd...

Nforce3 Firewall - Is installing recommended?

Not to mention your internet connection isnt loaded until after windows loads. Unless you make it via a boot disk.

Nforce3 Firewall - Is installing recommended?

You do want some sort of firewall with an 'allways on' connection. Windows has one built in now that works pretty good, or if you want to spend money on one like Black Ice or Zone Alarm, those work good. I haven't had any exp. with the Nforce3 built in firewall though. Bump for ya.

    SATA drivers needed

You shouldn't need any drivers ect for installing windows XP. I didn't have to put a floppy in at all with a new installation on a SATA harddrive only system. It also had the same MoBo you have.

Getting a hard drive... What the diff between SATA and Ultra ATA

SATA is the new standard. It has tiny tiny cables. It is hot swappable which is oh so handy for 5.25" bay harddrive kits.

BUying a computer in the next hour.. help FAST

Do not skimp on your PSU. A quality 380w PSU > a cheap 500w PSU. You run the risk of frying alot more than just the PSU unit with a cheap unit.

    Quiet DVD-ROM drives?

The ASUS "Quietrack" DVDROM Drives are very very quiet. They have some patented noise reduction technology that really does work. Just got my first ASUS DVDROM drive, and I cant hear the damn thing at all. I like. I have this one(they have other colors as well of coarse)...

    36GB or 74GB Raptor?

If you think you may end up using 75-100% of the space on the 36gig, then get the larger one. HDD's tend to slow down once you fill them up past 1/2 their size. My Operating System partition is around 40gigs on one of my comps, and I've used about 25gigs on it. I'd play it safe and get a...

All about Sata, worth it or not?

The tiny cables alone make it worth the small extra amount each drive costs vs. regular ATA, but add the fact they are hot-swappable AND its the new standard and its a no brainer. Cant wait till there are more optical drives out that are SATA.

Advantage to going to Serial ATA?

If 7 dollars is alot to you, maybe buying a computer should be last on your list :P
  33. D

Advantage to going to Serial ATA?

Not only is it the way of the future and the price difference is almost nothing, but the cables are also tiny and SATA is hot-swappable which is nice. You wont see any speed increase as of yet, but the above reasons are enough to spend the measly $7-10 extra.
  34. D

All about Sata, worth it or not?

SATA HD's and ATA Optical is the way to go. There aren't many (if any) SATA Optical drives out as of yet, so I'd just go ATA for those atm. If you aren't going to copy CD's / DVD's direct, then you can save some cash by only having one drive (like the NEC 3520A). But I personally recommend...

Are Refurbished parts a bad deal?

I will never buy refurbished. I have known to many people that have bought refurbished hardware to save a few $, but it ends up costing them more because they have to replace them/get them fixed alot more than they would have if they bought it new. Esp. anything like a harddrive, I'd never...

    Is ZipZoomFly a reliable seller?

When I purchased my brother an Ipod, the shipment was "delayed beyond their control" (fedex) because of the tsunami. I wouldn't complain about that. Its usually something they really cannot control.
