another vote for an LJ 5-series - I got a 5N for about a hundred bucks...more printer than i'll ever use plus it was networkable - which means no need for a print server if you have several computers.

7300GS

Anyone checked out the 7300GS? Seems like a bit of an upgrade from the 6200 series. I was thinking maybe i'd pick one up for my secondary machine instead of something from the 6600 line. What do you guys think? where does this 7300GS fit in compared with 6-series cards?

Need an fdisk utility to partition larger than 40 gig drive

well, as DaveSimmons said, use the drive prep utility available from the manufacturer. Figure out if the drive is maxtor, seagate, western digital and go to their website, and get their drive software for free. ie seagates Seatools, Maxtor's maxblast, or Western digital's data lifeguard tools.

well, if it's DDR, Gigabyte is coming out with a new adapter for a ram hard drive ...it was discussed at computex, supposedly out in july/august at $50 street price... basically takes your ram on a card (uses the pci slot for power only), and uses the sata bus so it appears as a hard...

mobo or CPU failed?

So I've got an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum, after reading lots of good things on it. Also have an AMD 3200+. working relatively well for a while, went to put a new hs/f on it as I wanted to try and get the temps down. So everything is back, and I go to boot up in dual channel, non-oced, and it starts...

AMD to migrate all desktop CPUs to Socket M2

Considering the emphasis the AMD platform puts on timings, moving to DDR2 is probably not much of an upgrade. With typical cas latencies around 4 on DDR2, and with DDR running similar bandwidth at cas 2.5 or 3, I can't see DDR2 being all that attractive unless they can bring the cas latencies...

MSI K8N Neo2 Plat.

So I have a 3200+ a64 chip, which I know can hit 2.5Ghz at least. Tested it with some older dual channel pc3200 and a ratio, and it was stable for days in prime95, 2t command rate was the other thing that worked. 200MHz "FSB" at this point, 5X HTT Got some patriot PC4400, which worked awesome...

is it possible to connect Linux box to DSL or cable internet?

Comcast = cable, no software required. SBC = DSL, and PPPoE, so yes, you'd need some software, but just a PPPoE client, and there are lots available for linux. If software was required, people wouldn't be able to use routers. Pretty much the only isps that require proprietary software are...

you need only 1 device to do DHCP serving. so the router will do it here, and the WAP needs to be on the same subnet, so if the router is 192.168.1.1, and the wap needs to have a 192.168.1.x address, and the address of the wap itself would need to be changed, ie, to 192.168.1.2 Turn off the DHCP...

Wireless-Ethernet Bridge question

The imac needs to be set to receieve an IP address from the bridge. I'm not familiar with the bridges, but I would assume they pass the ip from the router along?

Did you try reading the manual? usually things like this are addressed in how to set it up. There is a manual on the cd if there's none in the box. RTFM. And then if you still have problems, at least give us some more details to work with, ISP, connection type, does the router get an ip address...

SATA 120GB Experiencing Stop Errors(blue screen)

if your motherboard has 4 sata channels and you are overclocked, 2 of the ports are gonna be o/ced as well, and this can cause blue screens. Try port 3/4

Sp2 Problems

Well, I have been having pretty much constant and unbearable problems when SP2 is installed on my computer. I installed it when it first came out when I had an Intel system, and it broke a few programs and such. So I figured I'd stick with SP1. Then I got an AMD 64 system and figured I'd try SP2...

Can't Boot to SCSI Hard Drive

To boot off the drive, you need to make sure the bios of the card itself is enabled. Ie you hit a key on bootup to go into the cards built-in utilities. On my LSI Logic raid cards it's Alt-R. You used to have to have it on ID0 as well to boot, you may still have to depending on the card.

DVD burner question: DVD +R vs DVD -R?

I didn't see it addressed elsewhere in the thread, but the games crashing is likely the fault of Sp2 and the DEP feature. It's been known to crash AMD systems even with good memory

Need help setting up 300 gb SATA drive

use fat32 for a partition if you need access to it from linux. Otherwise use NTFS. NTFS allows for >4GB files, which you will need if you ever plan to copy a DVD
