I loaded up Windows 7 Upgrade. It took me a long time (over 4 hrs) to get it to load and take activation by method #3 because the it was missing one very important step.
It was so very aggravating that the #3 method was not working. I followed it to the letter and every time the activation...
Thank you for the link. I will get started soon and hopefully, the number 1 method will work.
Any suggestions for the Creative Labs sound card. I did a little bit of research and it doesn't sound good.
Installing the operating system. In the past there was set up procedures to prep the computer. Slugbait made one here: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=1868181
and added updates for the time here: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=256069&highlight=

While doing a search for the ASUS monitor shown earlier in the thread, it is no longer available. Is this one the replacement?http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236066
Just go to www.zipzoomfly.com and input 10010377 in the SEARCH.

Isn't this monitor a TN?
I was going off of the fact that video card box was clearly promoting HDMI hook up and, therefore, was seeking a monitor to hook up the HDMI. I have been out of building for a long while, so I am getting back to getting my feet wet again.
Thanks for all the help. I now know what I am doing...

The above link is to where I discovered the fix. After installing and running Norton it gave me an NSIS error and I googled and found the above link. Read down towards the bottom of the first page and it talks about the NVidia Firewall...
You are welcome. I will have to see if I can find the links to the issue and what led me to discover this fix based on others answers, but I did basically cover it already.
The bad thing is I wanted to not remove all of the Nvidia drivers and only removed the ethernet ones, which caused me to...
I would hope that I am not pigeon holing myself. The Geforce GTX 280 PCI-E 2.0 sitting in front of me has an HDMI interface.
The package contains the following:
EVGA GTX 280 graphics card
EVGA driver/software CD with EVGA Precision
(1) DVI to VGA adapter
(1) 6 pin PCI-E power cable...
I did some further research and found that my NVidia Firewall drivers were causing the issue. I uninstalled the Nvidia ethernet drivers section (which included the firewall program) using Windows add/remove and reinstalled just the PCI Bridge drivers and all worked great.
So, now I own a 2...
Yes, multiple times.
I even did a system restore to get back to AVG 7.5, delete it and then install AVG 8.5. And it does the same thing.
Right now, I am doing Windows update to get the windows side up to date. Currently running Service Pack 3.
I have tried multiple times to install AVG 8.5 and do the updates and it either hangs during update or completes and says "Invalid binary file error".
I've tried uninstalling and reinstall to no avail.
I've set my BIOS setting back to default and reinstalled AVG 8.5 to no avail...
Here is your answer to HDMI vs DVI
http://www.abccables.com/info-dvi-hdmi.html
Basically, HDMI is derived from its predecessor DVI and, therefore, has more bandwidth and also can carry an audio signal. Not that it will be an issue as I am only using it for video to my monitor.
Here is the link to the monitor on Newegg:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16824176104
The specs show it has one HDMI and 2 DVI hookups. My video card has HDMI. See above for the hardward on Video Card and Blu-Ray Player.
As far as HDMI vs DVI? Don't know. I do know for home...
After reviewing everything and seeing that I want to be able to photo edit, watch Blu-Ray and game, I think I will go with the HP LP2475w.
Anyone have any objections?
After doing a lot of looking, I decided on having the best of both worlds, since my desktop is not big enough for two monitors anyway and go with a high end 24 inch IPS panel. But even now am still seeking the best one for the money.
And I want to be able to game and photo edit as well as...
Thanks, I looked and found it for $99 saving my $40. Now I just need a 24 inch monitor. View this thread: http://forums.anandtech.com/me...id=27&threadid=2301970
I actually ordered two more 500G|WD WD5001AALS from Newegg based on other reviews and opinions here. I think I just need more cables to hook these HD's up.
I am searching for a not larger than 24 inch widescreen HDMI monitor and have yet to come up with one based on feedbacks at Newegg.
The dimensions of my open area of my desk are just under 19" H by 27" W. Thus the reason for the 24" Monitor.
I have an EVGA GTX 280 Video Card.
Any...
Thanks everyone! I will begin building the weekend after next. Hopefully, I won't run into any issues. I do need to obtain a floppy drive as I do not have a spare until I finish the other two computers and scrape this 6 year old one.
I want the Xi-Fi in the system as it is a nice external...
OP? I understand common sense but what is OP?
It seems based on your previous post that I screwed up with getting some of the components. Is there any I should definitely replace?
Thanks Slugbait!
Yes, those are my current parts. Is there any parts other than the monitor which I plan to upgrade later this year, that I need to change due to compatibility?
1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
Gaming, video and picture editing, music, play movies
2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
$1200
3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR...
Copilot, thanks so much for replying. Thought this thread would meet the pit of dispair. :D
I don't want to spend $400 plus on a video card, just want o be sure to get one that is good.
On the RAM what is the best RAM to get for this MB?
Okay, been away for a while and came back to do this now that I have the money and found that some items are no longer available. I am going with the high end option.
Two items I need to change are the RAM and the VIDEO card.
I want to go with 4GB of RAM minimum but would like to max it...
