Verifying a HT-capable P4 CPU without opening the case.

You can also download THIS utility from Intel. It's a hyper-threading test utility. Presumabely if HT isn't enabled or you don't have it then your computer will fail the test.

reccomend pci-e video card

An update in the event anyone else has a similar issue. For unrelated reasons I adjusted my monitors refresh rate from 60Hz to 72Hz and now the transparency setting appears to be working fine.

Benchmarking on 64 bit system

Did you format and do a clean install of windows after you installed the new MB and CPU? Going from different chipsets without a clean install can give you serious performance hits. I experienced as much when moving from a VIA chipset to an intel chipset on my old PIII.

Best lcd for below $300

WinXP: How to stop a process from running on bootup?

Are you running XP Pro? If so just go to Start, RUN and type msconfig. You should see a row of tabs. Click on the startup tab and search for 'startup item'. De-select it and it should no longer be loaded. If you don't want it at all, also de-select whatever you don't want in the services...

New gaming comp $1500 limit (sort of)

Hey AiponGkooja, as others stated above an additional DVD/CD drive can be useful. They're so cheap and let you do direct copies from drive to drive which you may want to do. A dedicated reader also takes some of the strain off of the more expensive burner. Two drives can be pretty handy.

I would toss in a second drive, a DVD/CD reader. Also, would you consider perhaps a 74GB raptor as a boot drive and keep the 300GB maxtor as a secondary HD? I ask because you have a hefty budget... Maybe get the NEC instead of the prioneer Will you be using onboard audio?

I own the LG1710SK and it's awesome. No dead pixels, great specs, and under $300. I wanted to get DVI of course but the prices wouldn't allow it. I think signal interference is a bit hyped. Unless you're running a particle accelerator on your desk you'll be ok; the cable is short there isn't...
