    Nice article! It seems that the new chips will have much higher memory bandwidth: 1.4 ns DDR3 (1400 MHz)! The GPU does not seem particularly impressive at 600 MHz and 12 pipelines, but I have the suspicion that memory bandwidth will start to become more important for higher end games.

    It ain't so... ;) (It probably is though). In any case, these early 7800GTs probably have defective pipes anyways. nVidia will probably be using the ones that weren't so good first, then move towards good ones that are just locked later once yields improve.

    Got mine, the box is REALLY bad (entire side crunched in like someone sat on it). I'm almost afraid to open it. Would Dell send me a new one before I test it? Or should I test it out first.

    unlocked 6800nu vs 6800GT...

    The memory bandwidth of DDR1 severly limits a lot of newer games. Even if you can unlock, you'll probably find that every MHz you can squeeze out of your memory would offer a huge improvement. I'd go with the 6800GT if you can afford it. :thumbsup:

    Yah... I don't know about that. But some people consider playable anything over 20 fps. I'd like to stay in the 40-60 fps range if at all possible, and higher if it lends itself to that.

    Mine goes to 2.6 on air (XP-120) but not even a MHz past that! Most people got between 2.5-2.6 on air, beyond that... it's luck of the draw. They're good chips, but with the Venice and San Diego here, you might as well wait a week or so. I know Newegg has/had Venice 3500+ in stock.

    Nope, the VNF4 Ultras originally were passively cooled so it was silent except for the high pitched whine. It was certainly unique for me. I've been computers for longer than some people on this forum are old!

    No offense taken. I actually didn't mind it. I think the sound I had was from the motherboard though. It only came on with temperature monitoring, and it went away when I bought a new mobo even using the same CPU and fan.

    That's exactly the sound I was getting. It sounds like it came from the socket. Like I said, mine was fixed when I switched mobos. One thing I noticed was the the noise got worse with temperature monitoring programs (like MBM5 or nTune monitor). Try turning those off and see how that feels...

    I had a similar problem on my Chaintech VNF4... now that I have a DFI nF4 Ultra-D the problem disappeared. Hmm... suspicious... maybe Chaintech boards make that sound due to cheaper components.

    Totally different cores. He's got a Clawhammer (stock 1.5V and 130nm) while you have a Winchester (stock 1.4V and 90nm). My Clawhammer runs at about those temps. They should be fine.

    Did you even bother reading the thread? The process that Sen is proposing is not actually a burn-in, it's a misnomer. Sen- Rename the process to "low-voltage conditioning" so people stop associating it with the "burn-in" that 99% of people believe doesn't work.

    No exchange on mobo's for other mobo's, only for the same model. The "risk" is fairly minimal, you see it a lot on forums since most people don't post, "My DFI Ultra-D is fine, no news to give." You only really tend to see, "OMG, my mobo is dead!!! I hate DFI!!!!"
