ATi 5850/5870 review thread

Is there any site with reviews of an actual 5850 ? I saw the one of the sticky but what they did was downclocking a 5870 to 5850 speeds. Merged into main thread. Video Mod BFG10K.

This is the one I saw where they downclocked a 5870, from the second page: "We simulated the performance of the HD 5850 by taking our HD 5870, reducing the clock speeds and disabling two SIMDs, which results in exactly the same performance as HD 5850."

The i just ordered an HD5870 or 5850 thread

They are actually showing right now on their Alienware setups. For a difference of $250 over the default GTX 260.

i7 Questions

I re oriented and reseated my HS. Cleared the cabling (it was a mess) and added a second frontal fan. Temps dropped 13C :D (and it was a very hot day) Overclocked to 3.4 and after some minutes of Priming it is not reaching 65C. Thanks all for the feedback and help !

i7 Questions

Thank you for your answers ! I think something is wrong with my i7, at around 25C ambient I am getting 50-53C idle. Ill try re-seating the HS tomorrow and reapplying thermal paste. Edit: That is without overclocking :(

GTX 295 or two ATI 4890's? or wait?

I am on the same situation: http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2326307&enterthread=y I decided to wait for the vid to see what Evergreen does to the market. Also, a lot of ppl recommended me not to buy the Antec 900 so I ended up with a CoolerMaster Storm Scout...just a tip ;)

Not really. if a real 10K RPM is achieved....A 300GB velociraptor is what...200 bucks ? You d be getting it for just $100.

O'Cing and EVGA 8800 GTS ... question

When I use Rivatuner to OC my 8800 GTS I have the option to link the shader clock to the core clock so when the core goes up the shader goes up as well. My question is : Is there any technical problem if I unlink them and, for instance, rise the shader clock over its linked value ?

I was kinda on the same boat as you some weeks ago... I got my GTS yesterday. I could only buy my card at Amazon so the prices were higher thatn the egg for example and the price difference between a GT and a GTS was neglible so I went for a GTS. If the price difference would be higher Id...

Nice card you got ... but get 2 Gigs of RAM...its cheap and you ll never regret it...that FPS is kinda low if ur outside...if it is in Shat is ok tho...

I mean the slow fan speed problem ? Would I have to increase the speed with Riva Tuner with this card as well ? I am seriously thinking on going with a GTS/Crysis bundle since the difference with a GT + Retail Crysis is just 20 bucks for me (I HAVE TO buy at Amazon) so I was wondering if I need...
